Deep Jewels 9 Live Play-By-Play & ResultsDeep Jewels showcased a pair of title fights on its ninth all-female card tonight at Differ Ariake in Tokyo, Japan. Deep Jewels 9 was headlined by a Deep Jewels Strawweight Championship trilogy fight between champion Mizuki Inoue and veteran challenger Emi “Kamikaze Angel” Fujino.

In tonight’s co-main event, Deep Jewels Bantamweight Champion Takayo Hashi put her title on the line in a rematch against unbeaten Gladiator titleholder Ji Yeon Kim. Emi Tomimatsu took on Natsuki Shimomakise. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the Deep Jewels 9 card.

 

Deep Jewels Strawweight Championship – 3×5

Mizuki Inoue vs Emi “Kamikaze Angel” Fujino

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Fujino throws jab-hook combos that come up short and she pushes Inoue up against the cage. Inoue reverses and Fujino counters again by putting her against the fence. The fighters separate and Fujino misses with a left hook. She clinches and a battle for position ensues. Fujino breaks away and throws a combination. Inoue jabs and favours quantity over quality.

Round 2:
Fujino presses forward with a barrage of punches in round two. Inoue counters with a short left elbow. She tries to keep Fujino at bay with jabs, but Fujino is relentless with her forward pressure and she takes Inoue’s back. The fighters fall down to the mat and Inoue reverses position. Fujino attempts a guillotine choke from her back and fails. Inoue looks to pass to half-guard and she lands hamnerfists from the top.

Round 3:
Inoue moves forward and scores with a right hook to the body in the final round. Fujino answers with left and right hooks. Inoue lands a jab-cross combo and she sidesteps punches from Fujino, who begins to miss more frequently. Time is called for the doctor to check on Fujino’s face. The fight continues and Inoue’s jabs cause Fujino’s face to swell up and turn red. Inoue blocks and sidesteps more of Fujino’s aggressive punches. She lands a one-two before the final bell sounds.

Judges Masato Fukuda, Yuji Shimada and Yoshinori Umeki all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Inoue.

Winner: Mizuki Inoue by Unanimous Decision after three rounds. She improves to 9-4-0 and remains the Deep Jewels Strawweight Champion.

 

Deep Jewels Bantamweight Championship – 3×5

Ji Yeon Kim vs Takayo Hashi

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Kim tries to counter Hashi’s straight left hands with jabs and crosses. Hashi clinches and pushes Kim up against cage. Kim reverses, then breaks free and resumes striking. She lands more straight lefts and jabs until the bell rings.

Round 2:
Hashi throws leg kicks in round two and Kim answers with jabs and a right hook that misses. Hashi clinches against the cage and tries for a takedown, but Kim sprawls. The fighters battle for position and Kim circles away. Hashi closes in and drags her down to a seated position, but she cannot advance any further and the referee calls for a break. Kim stuffs a takedown in the final seconds.

Round 3:
Kim counters Hashi’s combinations with more jabs and left crosses in the final round. Both women land left hooks and Kim drops Hashi. She moves to half-guard and then takes Hashi’s back. Hashi attempts to shake Kim off and eventually breaks free on her second try. She strikes from the top until Kim scrambles and takes top position. Kim lands punches until the end of the fight.

Judges Masato Fukuda, Yuji Shimada and Yoshinori Umeki all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Kim.

Winner: Ji Yeon Kim by Unanimous Decision after three rounds. She improves to 4-0-2 and becomes the new Deep Jewels Bantamweight Champion.

 

Retirement Exhibition Grappling Match

Miyoko Kusaka vs Various

Round 1:
Kusaka throws Yukiko Seki to the mat, but gives up her back and Seki gets a rear-naked choke. Kusaka takes Seki down again with a harai goshi and moves to mount. She locks on an armbar and Seki taps. Mei Yamaguchi enters the cage and reverses a Kusaka takedown into mount. She gets an armbar and Kusaka taps. Yamaguchi allows Kusaka to mount her and she taps out to a Kusaka armbar. Ayaka Hamasaki enters and reverses a double-leg takedown into a mounted armbar that prompts Kusaka to tap out. Hamasaki then gives up her back and Kusaka gets a rear-naked choke for a tapout finish that ends the exhibition.

Result: No winner. Exhibition match.

 

Atomweight Bout – 2×5

Emi Tomimatsu vs Natsuki Shimomakise

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Yoshinori Umeki. Shimomakise presses forward and looks to brawl, but Tomimatsu clinches and presses her against the cage. Shimomakise loses her balance and falls. Tomimatsu lands punches from half-guard and moves to mount. She rains down more punches and spins into an armbar. Referee Umeki stops the fight.

Winner: Emi Tomimatsu by Technical Submission (Armbar) at 2:43 of round one. She improves to 9-10-0.

 

Grappling Match – 2×4

Natsumi Mukai vs Megumi Sugimoto

Round 1:
Referee for this match is Yoshinori Umeki. Nukai pushes Sugimoto and Sugimoto counters by clinching and shooting for a double-leg takedown. Mukai sprawls well and Sugimoto switches to a single-leg. The fighters stand and Mukai allows her back to be taken. She drops down with a kimura and torques on Sugimoto’s arm. Referee Umeki has seen enough and stops the fight.

Winner: Natsumi Mukai by Technical Submission (Kimura) at 3:29 of round one.
