Invicta Fighting Championships 13 Live Play-By-Play & ResultsInvicta Fighting Championships held its 13th event tonight at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada. Invicta FC 13 was headlined by a featherweight championship matchup between dominant reigning champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino and challenger Faith “The Immortal” Van Duin.

In the Invicta FC 13 co-main event, Tonya “Triple Threat” Evinger took on Irene Aldana for the vacant Invicta FC Bantamweight Championship. Hérica Tibúrcio defended her Invicta FC Atomweight Championship against Ayaka Hamasaki. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the Invicta FC 13 card.

 

Invicta FC Featherweight Championship

Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino vs Faith “The Immortal” Van Duin

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Steve Mazzagatti. Justino opened the fight with a hard one-two and she followed with more punches in the clinch. Another flurry and a knee to the body hurt Van Duin, and she fell to her back. Justino dove in with more right hands and the brief fight was waved off.

Winner: Cristiane Justino by TKO (Knee To The Body & Punches) at 0:45 of round one. She improves to 14-1-0, 1 ND and remains the Invicta FC Featherweight Champion.

 

Invicta FC Bantamweight Championship

Tonya “Triple Threat” Evinger vs Irene Aldana

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Mark Smith. Aldana slipped off of a right hand from Evinger and Evinger dropped down into her guard. She rolled for a toe hold and a kneebar, but Aldana scrambled got to her knees. Evinger landed a vicious back elbow and retook top position in Aldana’s guard. She moved to half-guard and pinned down Aldana’s right arm while throwing short punches.

Evinger mounted Aldana and dropped right hands. She spun into a deep armbar and wrenched back on Aldana’s right arm, but Aldana refused to submit and somehow escaped. Evinger attempted a kimura and dropped punches in the final seconds. She tried for another armbar, but Aldana escaped and landed a handful of punches before the bell. 10-8 Evinger.

Round 2:
Right hands landed for both women in the second round and Evinger clinched against the cage. She took Aldana down and tied up Aldana’s right arm under her body. Evinger punched from the top and Aldana’s right eye began to swell shut. Evinger kept the pressure on with short punches while trapping Aldana’s arm and she remained on top until the end of the round. 10-9 Evinger.

Round 3:
Evinger just missed with a haymaker right hand in round three and she avoided a wild spinning backfist. She landed a knee and clinched with Aldana against the cage. Evinger dragged her down to her knees, but Aldana countered by trying to take her back in a scramble on the ground. The fighters stood and Evinger briefly pulled Aldana down to the mat. Aldana stood, but Evinger took her down and passed to mount. Aldana bucked as Evinger peppered her with punches and elbows as time ticked down. 10-9 Evinger.

Round 4:
The fourth round began with a right cross from Evinger and Aldana responded with leg kicks. An exchange of kicks ensued and Evinger took Aldana’s back and dragged her to the mat. She moved from back control to mount and locked on an arm-triangle choke, but Aldana defended well. Evinger blasted her with more punches and elbows as referee Mark Smith looked on. A final barrage of punches from Evinger prompted Smith to step in and stop the fight.

Winner: Tonya Evinger by TKO (Punches) at 4:38 of round four. She improves to 17-5-0 and becomes the new Invicta FC Bantamweight Champion.

 

Invicta FC Atomweight Championship

Ayaka Hamasaki vs Hérica Tibúrcio

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kim Winslow. Both women landed kicks in the opening minute and Hamasaki snapped Tibúrcio’s head back with a straight left. She followed with more punches, but Tibúrcio answered back with a body kick and a quick flurry. Hard one-twos connected for both fighters and Tibúrcio rushed forward with looping rights that came up short. She hurt Hamasaki with a body kick and pulled guard with a guillotine choke that she used to roll into mount. Hamasaki escaped from the choke, but Tibúrcio stayed on top until the bell. 10-9 Tibúrcio.

Round 2:
Hamasaki got Tibúrcio down into half-guard early in round two and she dropped short elbows while pinning down Tibúrcio’s arm. Hamasaki briefly passed to S-mount, but Tibúrcio scrambled and regained full guard. The fighters were stood up and Hamasaki landed a left-right combo. Tibúrcio tried for a takedown and Hamasaki reversed on the way down. She landed on top in half-guard and Tibúrcio countered by trapping Hamasaki’s leg. Referee Kim Winslow stood the fighters up and Tibúrcio pulled guard with a guillotine choke. 10-9 Hamasaki.

Round 3:
Hamasaki secured another takedown in round three and Tibúrcio threw elbows from her back. She tied up Hamasaki’s arms and briefly tried for a gogoplata. The fighters stood and Tibúrcio kicked at Hamasaki’s lead leg. Hamasaki got her down, but she gave up her back while trying to pass to side control and Tibúrcio locked on a body triangle. She methodically worked for a rear-naked choke, but Hamasaki defended until the end of the round. 10-9 Tibúrcio.

Round 4:
Tibúrcio threw a quick flurry in the fourth round, but Hamasaki rushed forward and took her down against the cage. She landed elbows to Tibúrcio’s body and passed to mount, but Tibúrcio scrambled back to half-guard. Hamasaki landed short elbows and Tibúrcio got back to full guard. The crowd booed as referee Kim Winslow once again stood the fighters up for no reason. Hamasaki promptly took Tibúrcio down and finished the round strong with short ground and pound. 10-9 Hamasaki.

Round 5:
Hamasaki immediately took Tibúrcio down in the final round and she resumed working from Tibúrcio’s half-guard. Tibúrcio escaped from a keylock attempt, but Hamasaki threw punches and hammerfists as Tibúrcio got to her knees. She tried to secure a rear-naked choke and Tibúrcio scrambled up to her feet. Hamasaki connected with a straight left and a lead right hand. She landed another right hook and Tibúrcio replied with a knee to the body. Hamasaki took her down and Tibúrcio tried for a late triangle choke. 10-9 Hamasaki.

Judge Lester Griffin: 48-47 Tibúrcio. Judge Adalaide Byrd: 48-47 Hamasaki. Judge Glenn Trowbridge: 49-46 Hamasaki.

Winner: Ayaka Hamasaki by Split Decision (49-46, 48-47, 47-48) after five rounds. She improves to 12-1-0 and becomes the new Invicta FC Atomweight Champion.

 

Pannie “Banzai” Kianzad vs Jessica-Rose “Jessy Jess” Clark

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Steve Mazzagatti. A lead left hand and a right hook landed for Kianzad early on, and Clark countered by clinching against the fence. The fighters were soon separated and Kianzad connected with a hard one-two. Clark tried to take her down and she gave up her back in the process. Clark stayed on her feet and she eventually turned into the clinch. Once again, the fighters were separated. Kianzad flurried and Clark answered with a left hook. Kianzad tripped her and worked from the top with elbows from half-guard. 10-9 Kianzad.

Round 2:
Following an early striking exchange in round two, Kianzad took Clark down and moved from half-guard to side control. Clark briefly regained half-guard, but Kianzad passed again and dropped elbows from a top-side crucifix. Kianzad transitioned to an inverted triangle keylock, but Clark pulled her head free. Kianzad swept back into top position and worked from Clark’s guard. Clark countered with an armbar and Kianzad had to act quickly to escape. She sat on Clark’s chest and dropped hammerfists, then took her back. Clark countered with a back elbow before the bell. 10-9 Kianzad.

Round 3:
The fighters traded punches throughout the opening minute of round three and Kianzad pressed forward with combinations and body kicks. An overhand right scored for Kianzad and Clark replied with two uppercuts. Three more punches backed Clark up and Kianzad tagged her again with a Superman punch. She continued to get the better of the boxing exchanges, but Clark landed a nice body kick in the final minute. She hurt Kianzad with two knees to the body late in the round, but time expired. Close round. 10-9 Kianzad by a slim margin.

Judge Patricia Morse Jarman: 30-27 Kianzad. Judge Tony Weeks: 30-27 Kianzad. Judge Junichiro Kamijo: 30-27 Kianzad.

Winner: Pannie Kianzad by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. She improves to 8-0-0.

 

Amber “The Bully” Brown vs Catherine “The Alpha Female” Costigan

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Mark Smith. Brown opened the fight with knees and short uppercuts in the clinch. She tripped Costigan and landed on top in mount. She tried to finish Costigan with an Ezekiel choke, then postured up with punches and elbows. Brown kept Costigan pinned down and she looked to set up an arm-triangle choke. More punches and elbows scored for Brown and Costigan gave up her back. Brown locked on a rear-naked choke and Costigan tapped out.

Winner: Amber Brown by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 3:34 of round one. She improves to 5-1-0.

 

Jamie Moyle vs Amy “The Resurrection” Cadwell Montenegro

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kim Winslow. The fighters battled in the clinch early on and Moyle countered knees from Montenegro with right hooks and a front kick to the face. She dragged Montenegro down to the mat and tried for a rear-naked choke and an armbar. Montenegro stood up to escape, then settled into Moyle’s guard. Moyle attacked with another armbar and Montenegro slammed her way free. Moyle took top position in half-guard and she postured up with some hard right hands. 10-9 Moyle.

Round 2:
Moyle landed a solid right hook in the second round and she put together quick combinations of punches that backed Montenegro up against the cage. Montenegro eventually landed a kick-punch combo, but Moyle immediately fired back with more right hands. She pushed Montenegro backwards with a front kick to the ribs and the fighters clinched soon after. Montenegro threw knees to the body until Moyle tripped her to the mat. She landed two left hands as Montenegro rose to her feet. Montenegro finished the round with standing elbows. 10-9 Moyle.

Round 3:
Montenegro pinned Moyle against the fence early in round three and both women landed short knees to the body. Moyle briefly reversed the clinch and referee Kim Winslow separated the fighters for no reason. Moyle pressed forward with overhand rights and body kicks. Montenegro responded with some nice knees to the ribs in close. Moyle landed two big knees in return and she snapped Montenegro’s head back with a left-right combo. Montenegro clinched and the fighters were separated immediately. The fight ended with an exchange of punches. 10-9 Montenegro, barely.

Amber Leibrock vs Marina “The Supernova From Moldova” Shafir

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Steve Mazzagatti. Shafir scored with a nice right hand early in the fight, but Leibrock recovered and rushed forward with two right hooks. The second one dropped Shafir and Leibrock rained down more rights as Shafir tried in vain for a heel hook. A final salvo of punches left Shafir unconscious and the fight was stopped.

Winner: Amber Leibrock by KO (Punches) at 0:37 of round one. She improves to 1-0-0.
