Mio Tsumura Defeats Miho Matsuda At Shoot Boxing 2015: Act 1Two-time Shoot Boxing JKS48 tournament winner Mio Tsumura picked up her 15th career victory on Saturday night in a featured bout at Shoot Boxing 2015: Act.1 in Tokyo, Japan. Tsumura outstruck opponent Miho Matsuda in rounds two and three en route to an impressive Unanimous Decision win.

Saturday’s fight was Tsumura’s second since she was edged out by highly-touted Japanese prospect Yukari Yamaguchi in the finals of the 48kg Shoot Boxing Japan Girls S-Cup in August. She landed crisp combinations in each round against Matsuda to take a well-deserved win on the scorecards.

Tsumura (15-2-0 SB) and Matsuda (10-11-3 SB/KB) exchanged right hands in the opening minute and both women scored with one-two combinations. The pace remained high as the round progressed and Matsuda countered Tsumura’s right hooks with straight rights in return. In the final minute of the round, Matsuda landed some of her best punches of the fight after backing Tsumura up against the ropes.

While the opening round was close, Tsumura took control of the fight in the final six minutes.

Matsuda managed to catch some of Tsumura’s leg kicks in round two, but Tsumura broke free of her grasp each time by landing hard right hands to the face. Tsumura began to target the body with her strikes and Matsuda answered with a knee late in the round. Tsumura was aggressive with her punches in the final round and she repeatedly scored with right hooks and two-punch combos. Matsuda replied with right hands of her own and the spirited bout ended with an exchange of power punches.

All three judges scored the fight 30-28 for Tsumura, who earned her second straight win and continued her climb back up the shoot boxing ranks. The talented young fighter remains one of the brightest prospects on the Shoot Boxing roster.

Winner: Mio Tsumura by Unanimous Decision (30-28, 30-28, 30-28) after three 3:00 rounds. She improves to 15-2-0.
