The Ultimate Fighting Championship came to José Corrêa Arena in Barueri, São Paulo, Brazil tonight for UFC Fight Night 58: “Machida vs Dollaway.” The event was headlined by a middleweight bout between former UFC champ Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and C.B. “The Doberman” Dollaway.
Also on tonight’s card, former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan “Barao” Pegado took on Canadian standout Mitch Gagnon in the 135-pound co-main event. Patrick “Durkin” Cummins battled TUF Brazil 3 heavyweight winner Antônio “Cara de Sapato” Carlos Jr. in featured light heavyweight action.
Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida vs C.B. “The Doberman” Dollaway
Round 1:
The fighters traded leg kicks early on and Machida blocked a head kick from Dollaway. He hurt him with a vicious kick to the liver and followed with punches as Dollaway turtled on the ground. Referee Jerin Valel stepped in and rescued Dollaway, who remained down on the mat in great pain.
Winner: Lyoto Machida by TKO (Kick To The Body & Punches) at 1:02 of round one. He improves to 22-5-0.
Renan “Barao” Pegado vs Mitch Gagnon
Round 1:
Barao landed a nice leg kick early in the fight and Gagnon answered back with a left hook. He flurried to the body and Barao countered with a knee and a combination. Both men landed left hooks and Barao mixed in more leg kicks. He punched his way into a clinch and landed another leg kick after Gagnon circled away. Gagnon fired off a one-two, but Barao dropped him with a counter left hook. He took Gagnon’s back as the fight returned to the feet against the cage and finished the round with a knee to the body. 10-9 Barao.
Round 2:
The second round began with an exchange of punches and the fighters clinched against the fence. Referee Mario Yamasaki separated them and Gagnon landed punches to the body. Barao got him down for a split second and the fight returned to a clinch. Gagnon tried for a takedown and Barao easily stuffed it. The fighters separated and Gagnon threw a series of punches to the body and head. The round ended with both men landing short knees in close. 10-9 Gagnon.
Round 3:
Gagnon kicked at Barao’s lead leg in the final round and followed with a knee. Barao responded with punches and missed with a jumping knee. Gagnon clinched and tried for a takedown, but Barao defended well and stayed on his feet until the fighters were separated. Barao landed a quick combination and he tripped Gagnon against the cage. Gagnon stood and landed a nice knee, but Barao reversed a takedown and took Gagnon’s back. He mounted him and locked on a rear-naked choke that forced Gagnon to submit.
Winner: Renan Pegado by Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 3:53 of round three. He improves to 35-2-0, 1 NC.
Patrick “Durkin” Cummins vs Antônio “Cara de Sapato” Carlos Jr.
Round 1:
Carlos stuffed an early takedown attempt and landed knees to the body, but Cummins got him down and punched from the top in half-guard. Carlos spun into a heel hook attempt and he switched to a toe hold. Cummins escaped and he landed punches to the body before standing back up. Cummins returned to Carlos’s guard and punished him with punches from the top. He passed to side control and landed knees to the body. Cummins closed out the round with short elbows and hammerfists. 10-9 Cummins.
Round 2:
Cummins stuffed a takedown and took Carlos’s back on the ground in round two. He landed punches to the face and transitioned to half-guard. Carlos got back to full guard and tried for an armbar, but Cummins easily escaped. He fought off a Carlos heel hook and stood up, then dropped back down into side control. Carlos battled back to his feet and fired off a winging right hand. He missed with a spinning hook kick and Cummins took him down again. Carlos was warned late in the round for an illegal upkick. 10-9 Cummins.
Round 3:
Carlos opened round three with a jumping knee, but Cummins countered by taking him down into side control. He postured up and landed punches from the top as the Brazilian crowd booed. Cummins transitioned to a modified arm-triangle choke and passed to mount soon after. Carlos scrambled back to full guard, but Cummins continued to score with short punches. The fighters stood and Carlos suplexed Cummins to the mat. He attempted a rear-naked choke, but Cummins escaped and finished the round with punches. 10-9 Cummins.
Winner: Patrick Cummins by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 7-1-0.
Rashid “Highlander” Magomedov vs Elias “Xuxu” Silvério
Round 1:
The fighters opened the fight with leg kicks and Magomedov hurt Silvério with a series of body kicks. Silvério recovered and chopped away at Magomedov’s lead leg. A glancing head kick landed for Silvério and both men scored with punches in an exchange. Hard leg kicks scored for both men and Magomedov connected with an overhand right. He kicked to the body and followed with another right hook. Punch-kick combos from Magomedov kept Silvério on the defensive and he took Silvério down just before the bell. 10-9 Magomedov.
Round 2:
Silvério wobbled Magomedov with a right-left combo in round two, but Magomedov regained his composure and the fighters traded punches. Time was called after Magomedov was poked in the eye, but action resumed and Magomedov backed Silvério up with a combination. Silvério began to bleed from beside his right eye and Magomedov landed another flurry in close. Silvério was kicked in the groin and time was called again. A hard body kick landed for Magomedov after the restart and he kept Silvério on the defensive with punch-kick combos. 10-9 Magomedov.
Round 3:
Magomedov was kicked in the groin early in round three and time was called once more. The fight continued and Magomedov landed a huge right hook. Leg kicks were exchanged and Silvério slipped after throwing a head kick. He got back to his feet and tried unsuccessfully for a takedown. The fighters clinched and Silvério fought off a Magomedov takedown attempt. Both men landed punches and Magomedov dropped Silvério with a looping left hook. He followed with more punches as Silvério tried to stand. A series of right hands knocked Silvério down again and the fight was stopped.
Winner: Rashid Magomedov by TKO (Punches) at 4:57 of round three. He improves to 18-1-0.
Erick “Índio” Silva vs Mike “Biggie” Rhodes
Round 1:
Silva took Rhodes down in the opening seconds and fought off a guillotine choke attempt. He moved to side control and worked for an arm-triangle choke on the far side. Silva passed to the opposite side and tightened the choke, which rendered Rhodes unconscious within seconds.
Winner: Erick Silva by Technical Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 1:15 of round one. He improves to 17-5-0, 1 NC.
Daniel Sarafian vs Antonio “Junior Alpha” dos Santos Jr.
Round 1:
Sarafian landed a three-punch flurry early on that was met by a quick combination from dos Santos. More punches were exchanged and dos Santos landed looping hooks. He ate a head kick, but floored Sarafian with a massive right hand. Sarafian recovered and worked back to his feet against the cage. Hard shots landed for both men and dos Santos backed up.
Sarafian scored with leg kicks and dos Santos cracked him with counter hooks. The fighters continued to trade heavy shots and dos Santos kicked to the body. Sarafian briefly got him down, but dos Santos rolled through and the fight returned to the feet. Dos Santos broke free from a clinch with a standing elbow. Hard right hands landed for both fighters and Sarafian secured a takedown. 10-9 dos Santos.
Round 2:
Dos Santos landed a lead left hook in round two and the fighters traded leg kicks. Dos Santos held his hand out as Sarafian pressed forward with punches and dos Santos’s ring finger on his hand was dislocated as it struck Sarafian’s skull. Dos Santos held up his hand in pain and the fight was stopped.
Winner: Daniel Sarafian by TKO (Dislocated Finger) at 1:01 of round two. He improves to 9-5-0.
Undercard Fights:
– Marcos Rogério “Pezao” de Lima defeated Igor “The Duke” Pokrajac by TKO (Punches) at 1:59 of round one. He improves to 13-2-1 with the win.

– Leandro “Brodinho” Issa defeated Yuta “Ulka” Sasaki by Submission (Neck Crank) at 4:13 of round two. He improves to 13-4-0 with the win.
