Undefeated strawweight rising star Livia Renata “Livinha” Souza scored a quick and impressive title victory tonight at Circuito Talent de MMA (Talent MMA Circuit) 12: “Campinas 2014” in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. Souza submitted veteran Camila “Camilinha Pitbull” Lima in just 47 seconds.
Souza, who is already signed to Invicta FC and may debut for the promotion before the end of the year, made short work of Lima in tonight’s 115-pound championship co-main event. She countered an early clinch by jumping on Lima’s back and locking on a standing rear-naked choke for the tapout win.
Souza (7-0-0) and Lima (8-4-0) briefly traded punches in the opening seconds of the fight and the fighters clinched soon after. Lima dropped levels and Souza took advantage by taking her back as she kneeled on the ground. Lima stood, but Souza was already firmly latched onto her back in a tight body triangle. She immediately began working for a standing rear-naked choke and snuck her arm under Lima’s chin. Lima tried to hold on, but she had no way to escape and hastily tapped out to the choke.
Tonight’s swift victory was Souza’s sixth by way of submission and her fifth first-round finish overall. The talented 23-year-old is one of Brazil’s fastest-rising female prospects and may be a future top contender at 115 pounds. Lima is 1-1 since her seven-fight winning streak was snapped in July 2013.
Winner: Livia Renata Souza by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 0:47 of round one. She improves to 7-0-0 and becomes the CTMMA Women’s Strawweight Champion.
