Undefeated strawweight prospect Kailin Curran picked up her third pro win tonight at Pacific Xtreme Combat 42 in Mangilao, Guam. The Hawaiian native made it three-for-three inside the PXC cage by outpointing South Korean newcomer Yoo Jin Jung in a featured matchup on tonight’s card.
Jung was very aggressive early in the fight, but Curran wore her down with effective combinations of body kicks and punches. Jung ate some hard shots from Curran, but she stayed on her feet until the end of the action-packed bout. With the win, Curran set her sights on a future title fight.
Curran (3-0-0) and Jung (0-1-0) traded heavy punches in the opening minute of the fight. Curran caught a body kick from Jung and pressed forward with a big combination of kicks and punches. The crowd erupted as Curran chased Jung down with strikes, but Jung held her ground and fired back with a nice right hand. Curran remained aggressive and she connected with a series of overhand rights.
The second round began with another exchange of hard punches. Curran knocked Jung down with a front kick to the body, but Jung quickly returned to her feet and both women landed stiff jabs. Curran mixed up her strikes with body kicks and one-two combinations. She swarmed on Jung after landing a shot to the body, but Jung recovered and circled away. Curran landed a head kick in the final ten seconds and Jung answered back with a counter right cross at the bell.
Both women landed body kicks early in the final round and Curran continued to score with quick one-two combinations. A front kick and a flurry landed for Curran, but Jung showed her resolve by countering with a combination of her own. Curran backed Jung up with a front kick to the body and she followed with three punches in close. She landed a powerful right hook and a head kick, but Jung remained on her feet. The fight ended with both women landing punches.
After three entertaining rounds, the judges were united in their verdict and all three scored the fight for Curran, who remains unbeaten as a professional. All three of her pro wins have come inside the PXC cage and she is one of the strawweight division’s brightest young prospects.
Winner: Kailin Curran by Unanimous Decision after three rounds. She improves to 3-0-0.
