It did not come easily, but BJJ black belt Alexis “Ally-Gator” Davis earned her first UFC win tonight at UFC 161: “Evans vs Henderson” in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Davis narrowly outpointed veteran contender Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton in a featured bantamweight bout on the main card.
Davis, who began her MMA career in Winnipeg in 2007, got off to a strong start tonight. She threatened with submissions on the ground, but Sexton refused to give up and she rallied with hard ground and pound. Davis came on strong as the fight progressed and took home a close decision victory.
Davis (14-5-0) and Sexton (13-3-0) traded punches right away and Davis secured a Thai clinch. She landed knees and tried for a takedown, but Sexton reversed on the way down. Davis locked on a tight triangle choke from the bottom, but Sexton would not submit. Sexton remained stuck in the triangle throughout the round, but she blasted Davis with hard right hands in the final minute.
Sexton scored a takedown into side control in round two and punched from the top until Davis pushed off of the cage and took over top position. She landed knees to the body as Sexton attempted to stand up and threatened with a rear-naked choke. Sexton held on, but Davis flattened her out and landed numerous punches until the bell sounded to save Sexton from further punishment.
The final round began with an early scramble on the ground and Davis used a heel hook attempt to transition to Sexton’s back. She tried again to set up a rear-naked choke and Sexton defended well. Sexton turned into Davis’s guard and landed short strikes while Davis hunted for submissions from her back. Sexton briefly held back control, but Davis closed out the fight on top in Sexton’s guard.
Davis’s strong second round and submission attempts in round three proved to be enough to earn her the victory on the scorecards. She has now won six of her past seven fights. The loss halted Sexton’s three-fight winning streak, but the British veteran put on an excellent showing in defeat against one of the sport’s premier female grapplers.
Winner: Alexis Davis by Unanimous Decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 14-5-0.

Good fight. If the 2 rd was 20 sec longer Davis would of stopped her. He’ll Barry got hit less and it was stopped. And Davis beat on Exton for 30 sec with Rosie just lying there covering up the ref had to tell her three times to fight back and she did nt .I think herb dean knew it was almost the ed of the rd. But unless it’s a title fight these fights should be stopped if a fighter is just taking shot after shot and just covering up a
I love both fighters, but I found them sloppy at times. I’ve seen better performances by both, especially by Alexis.
I’d love seeing Marloes vs Alexis at 135 lbs.
Congratulations Alexis for showing who’s boss…you totally rock honey…congrats again <3
Sexton is a warrior, but she is just too small at 135. Michelle Ould just did an interview where she said that everyone in WMMA is hearing that UFC is going to be starting a strawweight division soon. And that she just dropped her manager and is trying to get out of her Bellator contract to drop down to 115 when it happens.
If this is true, I’d love to see Sexton go down to 115.
I must thanks to Alexis for her this kind of performance. So this is now proved that who is the best in the world now. But i must also thanks to Sexton for her fair play.
