Unbeaten atomweight prospect Paulina “Firefox” Granados earned her first submission win in quick fashion tonight at Legacy Fighting Championship 20 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The hometown fan favourite needed a mere 46 seconds to defeat fellow Texan Maria Lopez with an impressive armbar.
Granados kicked off her pro career with a well-earned Unanimous Decision win in March following a 4-0 run as an amateur that was capped off by a Cage Combat 110-pound title win. All five of Granados’s previous fights had gone the distance, but she wasted no time in securing her victory tonight.
Granados (2-0-0) left a lasting impression on the partisan crowd with her slick win during the preliminary portion of the Legacy FC 20 card. She was able to get the fight with Lopez (0-1-0) to the ground early in the opening minute and immediately went to work in search of a submission. Soon after, Granados transitioned to an armbar and Lopez was forced to submit just 46 seconds into the 105-pound bout.
Tonight’s victory moves Granados one more step up the ladder in the developing atomweight division. The 25-year-old is currently one of MMA’s brightest female prospects at 105 pounds.
