Lena Ovchynnikova Submits Fathia Mostafa At SFL 16 In IndiaLena “Hunter” Ovchynnikova picked up her seventh submission win tonight at Super Fight League 16 in Mumbai, India. The Ukrainian standout used a first-round guillotine choke from mount to defeat Egyptian kickboxing champ and SFL newcomer Fathia Mostafa in the night’s co-main event.

The flyweight bout began with an exchange of kicks and punches on the feet and Mostafa landed some hard right hooks. Ovchynnikova pulled guard with a guillotine choke and used it to sweep into mount. She maintained her grip on the choke until an overmatched Mostafa was finally forced to submit.

Ovchynnikova (9-2-0) landed some nice leg kicks in the early goings of the fight, but Mostafa (1-1-0) countered with right hooks. She scored with more hooks seconds later and swelling began to develop on the right side of Ovchynnikova’s forehead. Ovchynnikova landed a grazing head kick and time was called as Mostafa appeared to be choking on something. Following a moment of confusion, Mostafa was able to continue and the fight resumed.

After the restart, Ovchynnikova punched her way into a clinch and she pulled guard with a tight guillotine choke. Ovchynnikova used the hold to roll Mostafa over. From the top in mount, Ovchynnikova adjusted her grip on the guillotine as Mostafa struggled to defend from her back. Ovchynnikova applied more pressure to the choke and Mostafa eventually tapped out.

Ovchynnikova’s victory was her first in three appearances for SFL. She has submitted seven of her nine conquered opponents to date. In addition to her MMA career, Ovchynnikova also remains active in kickboxing. Combined, she has captured seven world championship titles.

Winner: Lena Ovchynnikova by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 3:36 of round one. She improves to 9-2-0.
