Strikeforce veteran Colleen “The Beautiful Disaster” Schneider picked up her third straight victory and captured her first pro title tonight at Super Fight League 14 in Mumbai, India. Schneider submitted Serbia’s Sanja Sučević with a keylock to become the inaugural SFL Women’s Flyweight Champion.
Schneider used her size and strength advantage to control the fight on the ground and she dominated the action with strikes and submission attempts. Sučević did well in defence, but Schneider continued to wear her down and eventually secured the fight-ending keylock midway through round three.
Schneider (4-4-0) opened the fight with leg kicks and the much shorter Sučević (4-2-0) responded with overhand rights. More kicks were exchanged and Schneider scored with a barrage of knees to the chest that forced Sučević to drop levels for a takedown. Schneider took her back on the ground and landed punches while working for a rear-naked choke. Sučević rolled to her back and Schneider wound up on top in half-guard. She moved to a top-side triangle choke position in mount and threw punches and elbows, but Sučević survived until the bell.
The second round began with another exchange of kicks. Schneider just missed with a spinning back kick and Sučević tagged her with a hard left cross. Sučević looked to clinch, but Schneider shrugged her off. She caught a kick from Sučević and took her down soon after. Schneider once again worked from the top in half-guard and tried to set up a keylock on Sučević’s left arm. Schneider moved to a crucifix on top and landed elbows and punches during the final minute.
In round three, Schneider secured a Thai clinch and landed a series of knees, but Sučević managed to break free by punching over the top. Right hooks landed for both fighters simultaneously and Schneider took Sučević down into side control. She trapped Sučević’s left arm and landed short elbows, then quickly secured a keylock on the isolated arm and Sučević immediately tapped out.
Schneider remains unbeaten in three appearances for SFL and she has now won four of her past five fights overall. All four of her pro wins have come inside the distance.
Winner: Colleen Schneider by Submission (Keylock) at 2:54 of round three. She improves to 4-4-0 and becomes the first SFL Women’s Flyweight Champion.
