Jewels: "22nd Ring" Live Play-By-Play & ResultsJewels came to Differ Ariake in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday for its first caged event. Jewels: “22nd Ring” was headlined by a Jewels Lightweight Queen Championship bout between Ayaka Hamasaki and Emi “Kamikaze Angel” Fujino, and also featured the retirements of Rina Tomita and Naoko Omuro.

In other action on the card, unbeaten atomweight prospect Satomi Takano faced former Valkyrie champion Yasuko “Ikuko” Tamada. Mizuki Inoue battled Hyo Kyung Song, while Kikuyo Ishikawa took on Tomo Maesawa. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the Jewels: “22nd Ring” card.

 

52kg Jewels Lightweight Queen Championship – 3×5

Ayaka Hamasaki vs Emi “Kamikaze Angel” Fujino

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Ryogaku Wada. Fujino comes out swinging and backs Hamasaki up against the cage. Hamasaki quickly reverses position and takes Fujino down. Fujino scrambles up the cage and almost takes Hamasaki’s back, but Hamasaki rips her down again and lands in side control. Hamasaki works for a Kimura but the cage is in her way. Fujino recovers half-guard as Hamasaki punishes her with heavy punches from the top. Fujino latches onto Hamasaki’s head and tries to scoot to her feet against the cage, but Hamasaki keeps her down.

Hamasaki moves into mount and keeps Fujino pressed against the cage. She swarms with punches, but Fujino manages to stand and they break apart. The fighters trade hard punches and circle each other. Both continue to swing heavy and both are connecting. Hamasaki eats a straight right as she comes in and gets staggered momentarily. Fujino moves in and they clinch against the cage and trade knees until the round ends.

Round 2:
They get right back into things as round two starts. Both fighters give and receive hard shots. Fujino lands a lightning-fast combination that backs Hamasaki up against the cage, but she recovers and they continue to circle each other. Hamasaki drops for a double-leg and bulls through Fujino, taking her all the way across the cage. Fujino rolls and latches onto a tight guillotine with Hamasaki in her half-guard.

Hamasaki hangs on, but she can’t get her head free. Fujino has the choke in deep. Hamasaki keeps her hips high and slides into side control but still can’t free her head. She finally pops free and works for a Kimura against the cage. Fujino gets to her feet, but Hamasaki secures a big hip toss and Fujino hits the ground in sync with the round bell.

Round 3:
Round three starts and they’re swinging for the fences again. Fujino’s straight right continues to give the southpaw Hamasaki trouble. They clinch and Hamasaki throws knees to the head and body before Fujino breaks free. Hamasaki is tired and has her hands low as she get clipped by straight punches. She drops for a takedown and gets Fujino to the ground, moving to mount against the cage.

Hamasaki grabs an arm and tries to lean back for an armbar, but the cage is in her way. She keeps hold of the arm and throws punches to Fujino’s face. Fujino recovers half-guard. Hamasaki keeps up good pressure and pushes Fujino against the cage. Fujino gets to her feet and they fight for grips. Fujino breaks free and they trade punches for the remaining ten seconds of the fight.

Judges Akira Yamazaki, Masato Fukuda and Kenichi Serizawa all score the close title fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision and still champion, Hamasaki.

Winner: Ayaka Hamasaki by Unanimous Decision after three 5:00 rounds. She improves to 9-0-0 and remains the Jewels Lightweight Queen Champion.

Mizuki Inoue vs Hyo Kyung Song

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Ryogaku Wada. Song tries to be the aggressor early on and throws combos, but Inoue blocks the shots. Inoue blocks a head kick and lands a big hook in response. Song lands a few stiff jabs and Inoue gets aggressive. She moves in with brawling hooks, then gets a quick takedown and lands in side control. Song tries to stand up against the cage and Inoue lands hard punches to the face and throws her back down.

Inoue starts to set up an armbar on the near-side arm and throws hard punches to the body. Song turtles and Inoue lands a few hard shots to the head before Song stands all the way up. They clinch against the cage and Inoue works for a trip takedown as they trade knees. Song gets lazy with her knees and Inoue rips her to the ground and lands in mount. Inoue goes for an armbar just as the bell signals the end of the round.

Round 2:
Song tries to be the more aggressive fighter again in round two while Inoue bides her time and picks her shots. Song gets too close and Inoue clinches and hip tosses her to the ground. She lands in side control before passing to mount. Song rolls over and Inoue rides her back. She throws huge punches to the head before sinking her hooks in and working for a rear-naked choke. Song rolls again and Inoue keeps mount as she works for an armbar. She quickly latches on and leans back to extend the arm, forcing Song to tap at 2:14.

Winner: Mizuki Inoue by Submission (Armbar) at 2:14 of round two. She improves to 4-1-0.

 

52kg Jewels Special MMA Rules – 2×5

Mika “Future Princess” Nagano vs Rina Tomita

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. The fighters feel each other out for a bit before clinching against the cage. Nagano lands a trip takedown and falls into Tomita’s guard. She works to half-guard and then to mount, where she quickly grabs an arm and leans back for an armbar. Tomita wraps her legs around Nagano’s head, but Nagano pops free and extends the arm for the tap at 2:12.

Following the bout, Tomita is presented with a ceremony to commemorate her retirement.

Winner: Mika Nagano by Submission (Armbar) at 2:12 of round one. She improves to 11-8-0.

 

65kg Jewels Special MMA Rules – 2×5

Jade Marie Anderson vs Megumi Yabushita

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Ryogaku Wada. The fighters clinch early on and Anderson moves to get to the back, but Yabushita pushes her away. A brief striking exchange follows before more clinching. Anderson lands hard knees to the body and Yabushita turtles. Anderson moves behind Yabushita to take the back. Yabushita keeps her arms and legs tight and Anderson struggles to get her hooks in.

Yabushita gets flattened out and Anderson throws hammerfists before getting her hooks in. Yabushita keeps her hips high and rolls into Anderson’s guard before standing up again. A big spinning backfist lands for Yabushita. She tries a somersault kick that just misses and Anderson takes side control. Anderson works to set up an armbar as the round ends.

Round 2:
Round two starts and Anderson rushes in for a takedown. She rips Yabushita to the ground with a single-leg, but Yabushita rolls and turtles up. Anderson stays behind her and throws punches to the head. Yabushita latches onto one of Anderson’s arms, but does little else to defend or escape. Anderson tries to pick her up for a suplex, but can’t stay balanced and Yabushita reverses position and takes Anderson’s back.

Anderson postures up and rolls into Yabushita’s guard. Referee Wada stands them up and Anderson lazily moves into range and eats a few punches before taking Yabushita down again. Yabushita turtles and Anderson throws a series of knees to the body and punches to the head. A big suplex follows from Anderson, but they just wind up where they already were. Yabushita grabs a leg and the round ends.

Judges Akira Yamazaki, Kenichi Serizawa and Masato Fukuda all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Anderson.

Winner: Jade Marie Anderson by Unanimous Decision after two 5:00 rounds. She improves to 1-0-0.

Yasuko “Ikuko” Tamada vs Satomi Takano

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Takano immediately rushes in and they clinch. Takano takes Tamada down against the cage and lands in half-guard. Tamada hips out and works to take Takano’s back. She gets both hooks in and starts to pound on Takano’s head while working for a rear-naked choke. Takano keeps her grip on Tamada’s arms and defends the choke, but she can’t escape from back control. Tamada rolls Takano onto her stomach and tries to flatten her out before working for an armbar. She gets close but can’t extend the arm before the round ends.

Round 2:
Tamada opens up round two strongly, landing crisp straight punches to the head. The fighters clinch against the cage and Tamada botches a takedown attempt. She winds up on bottom with Takano in her guard. Takano presses her against the cage and stands up to pass into side control. Tamada stands and they clinch briefly before breaking apart and moving to the centre of the cage. Tamada continues to land straight punches from range, but eats occasional hooks when she reaches in.

Tamada increases the volume of her punches, but Takano decides to shoot in and lands a quick trip takedown. Takano stands above Tamada against the cage and Tamada works for a nasty toe hold. They scramble and Tamada winds up on Takano’s back again with one minute remaining. Takano tries to rip free and Tamada latches onto her arm and attempts an armbar, but again gets cut short by the end of the round.

Judges Akira Yamazaki, Ryogaku Wada and Masato Fukuda all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Tamada.

Winner: Yasuko Tamada by Unanimous Decision after two 5:00 rounds. She improves to 14-8-3.

 

Jewels Exhibition Match – 1×5

Naoko Omuro vs Hisae Watanabe

Round 1:
Referee for this exhibition match is Kenichi Serizawa. The fighters clinch early on against the cage. Omuro drops low and Watanabe tries to take her back, but Omuro rolls and lands on top in mount. Watanabe wiggles out against the cage and they retake the centre. Watanabe uses her speed to get the better of the sporadic punching exchanges. They clinch against the cage again and Omuro gets a double-leg takedown.

Watanabe works for an armbar, but Omuro avoids it and slides into side control before Watanabe turtles and they stand. Omuro lands a hard one-two to the head. Another big hook catches Watanabe as she comes in. Omuro fakes a punch and quickly shoots for a double-leg. She moves to side control and then spins for an armbar. Watanabe rolls but Omuro extends the arm and referee Serizawa stops the fight.

Omuro wins her exhibition retirement match. Following the bout, a retirement ceremony commences for Omuro with presentations and photographs taken.

Winner: Naoko Omuro by Technical Submission (Armbar) in round one. As the bout is an exhibition match, no time is given.

 

50kg Shoot Boxing Rules – 3×2

Emi Tomimatsu vs Nako Otsuka

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Ryogaku Wada. The fighters open up aggressively. Tomimatsu tries to come into range but Otsuka lands counterpunches and kicks. Tomimatsu continues to pressure into range, but she can’t land anything solid. She catches one of Otsuka’s kicks and lands a hard punch to the face while pushing Otsuka to the canvas as the round ends.

Round 2:
They’re aggressive again in round two. Tomimatsu continues to keep up her pressure, catching multiple kicks and landing solid punches while pushing for point-scoring throws. Otsuka looks to be getting tired and Tomimatsu is connecting with punches more frequently. Otsuka clinches and tries for a hip throw at the end of the round.

Round 3:
Otsuka tries to be more offensive early in round three, but Tomimatsu continues to catch her kicks and work for throw takedowns. Otsuka attempts a few guillotines, but she doesn’t hold on for long. Both fighters start to tire and they throw sloppy haymakers at each other until the round ends.

Judges Yamazaki, Serizawa and Suzuki all score the fight even at 29-29. We go to an extension round.

Round 4 (Extension Round):
The fighters both close in and clinch. Tomimatsu gets the rear waist-lock and tries to suplex Otsuka, but she is unsuccessful and doesn’t score a Shoot Point. They stand and Tomimatsu continues to come in with her hands down and eats straight punches from Otsuka. In the clinch, the fighters trade knees and Otsuka fails with a hip throw attempt. Tomimatsu tries for a single-leg, but Otsuka wraps up her head for a guillotine. Tomimatsu holds on until the bell.

Judge Suzuki scores the extension round 10-9 for Otsuka. Judges Yamazaki and Serizawa have it 10-9 for the winner by Split Decision, Tomimatsu.

Winner: Emi Tomimatsu by Split Decision (10-9, 10-9, 9-10) after one 2:00 extension round and four rounds overall.

 

48kg Jewels Special MMA Rules – 2×5

Kikuyo Ishikawa vs Tomo Maesawa

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Ishikawa opens up with a kick-punch combination that lands and keeps Maesawa on her back foot. Ishikawa uses her reach advantage to land kicks and punches from range. Maesawa tries to clinch for a takedown, but Ishikawa holds her back and lands knees to the stomach. They break apart and Ishikawa stays at long range.

A front kick to the body lands on Maesawa and she drops for a takedown. Ishikawa throws hammerfists and Maesawa breaks away and stands up. Maesawa shoots in against the cage and works for hip throws and double-legs from the clinch, but Ishikawa stays on her feet. Maesawa finally gets Ishikawa to the ground, sloppily, and works to pass from half-guard. Ishikawa holds on tight until the round ends.

Round 2:
Ishikawa is the more offensive fighter again in round two. She peppers Maesawa with combinations from range until Maesawa moves in to clinch against the cage. More hip throw attempts from Maesawa, but Ishikawa holds on tight and keeps her balance. Knees from Ishikawa land while Maesawa continues to work for a takedown. They break apart and Ishikawa continues her combination pattern.

Maesawa lands a counterpunch that stuns her opponent and she moves in quickly to capitalise. She secures a hip throw and lands in side control. Maesawa tries to take mount but Ishikawa rolls. Maesawa uses the opportunity to latch onto an arm for an armbar attempt. Ishikawa breaks free and they scramble. Ishikawa comes close to taking her opponent’s back, but gets cut short by the end of the fight.

Judges Masato Fukuda, Akira Yamazaki and Ryogaku Wada all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Ishikawa.

Note: Bout initially announced as a Majority Decision victory for Ishikawa. Jewels officials confirmed after the event that judge Fukuda had scored the fight in Ishikawa’s favour, and not a Draw as first announced.

Winner: Kikuyo Ishikawa by Unanimous Decision after two 5:00 rounds. She improves to 8-3-0.

 

60.5kg Kickboxing Rules – 3×3

Mayumi “Super Benkei” Aoki vs Satoko Ozawa

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Ryogaku Wada. Both women start out tentatively and feel for the range. Aoki lands a hard kick to the ribs and another to the head. Ozawa stays up and stalks Aoki around the cage. She throws a heavy four-punch combination, but Aoki circles her way out of range. They continue to circle each other, sporadically jumping into range for quick brawls. Aoki lands a hard right hook that staggers Ozawa, but she can’t follow through with more shots. Aoki feints a switch kick and lands a big kick to the head before the round ends.

Round 2:
Ozawa tries to be more aggressive in round two, but Aoki keeps her at bay with hard uppercuts and body shots. They continue the same pattern as in round one, but Aoki starts to connect more with heavy shots. She lands a clean three-punch combination before the round ends.

Round 3:
It’s more of the same in round three. Ozawa can’t seem to get into range successfully without eating counterpunches. The same pattern continues all the way until the round ends.

Judges Kenichi Serizawa and Masato Fukuda both see the fight 30-27, while judge Akira Yamazaki has it 30-28. All three score the bout for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Aoki.

Winner: Mayumi Aoki by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-28) after three 3:00 rounds.

Rena Matsuda vs Harumi

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Ryogaku Wada. Harumi presses forward from the opening bell and Matsuda lands counterpunches as she comes in. A punch drops Harumi quickly and she gets a standing eight count. The fight continues and Harumi misses with a bad spinning backfist. Matsuda throws speed-bag punches that go unblocked. Referee Wada steps in and stops the fight at 52 seconds of round one.

Winner: Rena Matsuda by TKO (Punches) at 0:52 of round one.

 

56kg Jewels Special MMA Rules – 2×5

Keiko Tomita vs Yasuko “Pink Spider” Mogi

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Mogi begins the bout with a Yellow Card for coming in 350 grams (0.77 pounds) overweight. The fighters circle briefly before Mogi clinches and pushes Tomita against the cage. Tomita reverses and puts Mogi’s back to the fence. They stay clinched and move around the cage until referee Serizawa restarts them in centre cage. Tomita lunges in with a straight right that connects and stuns Mogi.

Tomita backs Mogi up to the cage and lands a four-punch combination to the head before Mogi recovers and clinches. Serizawa restarts them again in the middle and Tomita throws feints and occasional punches and kicks. A combination lands and Mogi freezes up before getting pushed against the cage. She manages to recover and gets Tomita’s back to the cage, but the bell sounds to end the round there.

Round 2:
The second round starts and the fighters circle for a bit before Tomita lands a big leg kick and follows it up with a two-punch combination that drops Mogi. Tomita pounces and referee Serizawa steps in to end the fight only 20 seconds into round two.

Winner: Keiko Tomita by TKO (Punches) at 0:20 of round two. She improves to 1-1-0.

 

51kg Jewels Special MMA Rules – 2×5

Celine Haga vs Miyoko Kusaka

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. The fighters circle around the cage and feel each other out. Haga lands a few kicks and punches. She gets a Thai clinch and tries to throw a few knees, but Kusaka forces her off. Kusaka tries to get inside to work for takedowns, but Haga keeps her back with her longer reach. Kusaka gets in off of a shoot, but Haga whizzers and manages to break away. They circle some more until the round ends.

Round 2:
They clinch early in round two and Haga pushes Kusaka up against the cage. The two work for takedowns, but neither can get one and referee Serizawa breaks them apart. Kusaka shoots for a takedown immediately, but Haga whizzers and tries to take the back. She can’t because the cage is in her way. Kusaka turns back in, but Haga breaks her down and lands on top on Kusaka’s butterfly guard. Haga tries to pass, but she gets a leg wrapped up in Kusaka’s half-guard. Kusaka kicks her off and they stand again before the bell rings.

Judges Ryogaku Wada, Masato Fukuda and Akira Yamazaki all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Haga.

Winner: Celine Haga by Unanimous Decision after two 5:00 rounds. She improves to 3-11-0.

 

48kg Jewels Official MMA Rules – 2×5

Mina Kurobe vs Naomi Taniyama

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. Taniyama comes out swinging, but Kurobe quickly pins her against the cage before taking her to the ground and landing on top in half-guard. She works to pass, but can’t, and referee Fukuda stands them up. Taniyama throws punches, but Kurobe weaves her way around them and shoots in for a double. After a bit of work, she gets the takedown and moves to the mount position. Kurobe postures up to throw punches until the bell rings.

Round 2:
Round two starts and Taniyama stays offensive on the feet again. Kurobe keeps to her peek-a-boo tactic and tries to get a takedown. She makes it to the rear waist-lock and takes Taniyama to the ground, quickly taking the back and working for a choke. It takes her some time, but she finally locks in the rear-naked choke and Taniyama taps at 1:55.

Winner: Mina Kurobe by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 1:55 of round two. She improves to 1-0-0.

 

65kg Jewels Official MMA Rules – 2×5

Yurika Tanaka vs Rie Fukui

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. Fukui comes out swinging and Tanaka goes straight to the clinch and pins her against the cage. The referee breaks them up and restarts them in centre cage. Fukui lands a hard right hand and Tanaka clinches against the cage again. Tanaka gets Fukui to the ground against the cage and tries to take mount, but Fukui wraps up a leg in half-guard.

The fighters are broken up for a lack of action once again. Tanaka clinches straight away and lands a big hip toss into side control before quickly taking mount. Fukui recovers half-guard, but Tanaka just holds on tightly and stalls until the round ends.

Round 2:
Round two begins and they clinch before Tanaka gets another hip throw into side control. She takes her time setting up a modified forearm choke and finally gets the tap at 1:22.

Winner: Yurika Tanaka by Submission (Forearm Choke) at 1:22 of round two. She improves to 1-1-0.

 

Jewels Grappling Rules – 2×4

Rikako Yuasa vs Yuko “Amiba” Oya

Round 1:
Oya has the size advantage here and tries to use it to bully Yuasa around the cage. Yuasa slips around and gets a rear waist-lock before Oya drops down to the ground. Oya tries to work some trick x-guard work, but Yuasa passes right over it into mount. Yuasa sets up a triangle and Oya rolls. Yuasa keeps the set up and tries to lock in the choke, but Oya pops up and stands in Yuasa’s open guard. Yuasa pulls her back down and tries for another triangle before switching it to an armbar. Oya goes face down before tapping out at 2:19.

Winner: Rikako Yuasa by Submission (Armbar) at 2:19 of round one.

 

55kg Jewels Amateur Grappling Rules – 1×4

Shizuka Yuasa vs Shizuko Ashikaga

Round 1:
Ashikaga fills in for Yuasa’s originally scheduled opponent, Takumi Umehara. Yuasa gets collar grips and rips Ashikaga to the floor. Ashikaga turtles up and Yuasa works for a collar choke. Yuasa starts to work to take the back, but Ashikaga rolls and brings Yuasa into her spider guard, where she works for sweeps until the bell rings. Yuasa wins on points 2-0 due to her takedown.

Winner: Shizuka Yuasa by Decision (2-0 Points) after one 4:00 round.

Yuki Uchiyama vs Takumi Umehara

Round 1:
Very little transpires during the course of this match. Neither fighter is able to mount much offence, but Uchiyama controls position enough to earn the referee decision.

Round 1:
They fight for grips and Uchiyama works for foot trips before Ashikaga pulls guard. Ashikaga keep a tight grip high on her opponent’s collar and brings her other arm around for a cross-collar choke, but Uchiyama pops her head out. Ashikaga decides to play the open guard game and works for sweeps from the spider guard. Uchiyama tries to pass, but she can’t get past her opponent’s leg. Ashikaga gets close to a sweep but can’t finish and stays on the bottom. Uchiyama nearly finishes a guard pass but the bell cuts her short.

The referee is tasked to determine a winner and he awards the victory to Ashikaga.

Winner: Shizuko Ashikaga by Referee Decision after one 4:00 round.
