Jessica Eye Chokes Out Zoila Gurgel In Bellator 83 Grudge MatchIn her biggest fight to date, flyweight standout Jessica “Evil” Eye put on the most impressive performance of her career tonight at Bellator Fighting Championships 83 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Eye choked out Bellator champ and bitter rival Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Gurgel in 58 seconds.

Eye dropped Gurgel with punches within seconds of the opening bell and quickly secured a standing arm-triangle choke as Gurgel recovered and battled back to her feet. Eye refused to relinquish her grip on the hold and Gurgel was soon rendered unconscious, giving Eye a huge victory.

Eye (9-1-0) and Gurgel (12-2-0) traded big punches right away and a one-two combo sent Gurgel falling backwards to the mat. Eye dove in with more punches, but Gurgel weathered the storm and scrambled up. Eye locked on the standing arm-triangle choke on the way up and held Gurgel up against the cage. Gurgel did her best to try to spin to escape the choke, but she could not. Eye maintained her grip and squeezed on the neck until an unconscious Gurgel dropped to her knees. The brief bout was waved off and an elated Eye began to celebrate with her team.

Tonight’s victory was Eye’s sixth in a row and fourth this year. She remains unbeaten in three fights for Bellator and will likely ascend to the top spot in the 125-pound women’s division. At just 26 years of age, Eye is one of the fastest-rising female stars in MMA and she continues to show tremendous improvement with each fight. Gurgel remains the Bellator women’s titleholder at 115 pounds.

Winner: Jessica Eye by Technical Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 0:58 of round one. She improves to 9-1-0.

  1. Im glad it didnt go to a dec, because frausto never loses dec even when megumi beat her badly, so karma has come round, and maybe frausto will get an ego, check and finally admit she isnt the champ and nevr should of been awarded the win megumi easily won 4 rds of that fight

  2. I kind of like Zoila, but she had so many iffy victories… she never, ever impressed me as a fighter.

I think this puts to rest where she ranks in the 125 lb.division…
