Friday MMA Recap: Claudia Gadelha, Kathina Catron Earn Quick WinsDecorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha kept her unbeaten MMA record intact with a quick victory tonight at Shooto Brazil 34 in Brasilia, Brazil. Gadelha stopped late replacement opponent Adriana Vieira with a barrage of punches for a TKO win in just over 90 seconds.

Elsewhere tonight, flyweight prospect Kathina “Kill Switch” Catron made a successful pro debut at Xtreme Fighting League: “Xtreme Fight Night 9” in Catoosa, Oklahoma. Catron submitted Amber “The Crazy Bitch” Powell with a first-round guillotine choke and remains undefeated in her MMA career.

Gadelha (9-0-0) closed the distance and backed Vieira (1-1-0) into the corner before slamming her to the mat. Vieira did well to tie up Gadelha’s arms from the bottom, but Gadelha managed to free herself and she postured up with some solid punches. After pinning her opponent in the corner, Gadelha stood over Vieira and rained down punches until the referee intervened to stop the fight.

The swift victory was Gadelha’s first by way of knockout. All but two of her career wins have come inside the distance.

Winner: Claudia Gadelha by TKO (Punches) at 1:35 of round one. She improves to 9-0-0.

Catron (5-0-0 amateur, 1-0-0 pro) clinched with Powell (3-4-0) in the opening seconds and both fighters landed knees and punches as they battled in close. Catron created space and backed her opponent up with a big flurry of punches. Powell closed the distance and attempted a hip toss, but Catron defended and landed another right hand. Seconds later, Catron pulled guard with a tight guillotine choke and Powell was forced to hastily submit.

Winner: Kathina Catron by Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:41 of round one. She improves to 1-0-0.
