Tecia Torres Dominates Ashley Greenway, Wins USFFC TitleTecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres solidified her spot as one of MMA’s premier amateur fighters with a dominant victory tonight at U.S. Freedom Fighters Championship 5: “Battle Forged” in Marion, North Carolina. Torres defeated the previously unbeaten Ashley Greenway after five lopsided rounds.

The Unanimous Decision win earned Torres her second 115-pound title of 2012 and improved her amateur record to 6-0. The 22-year-old has been competing for just nine months and plans to turn pro later this year following a July 16th title bout with Texas-based prospect Amber Stautzenberger.

After an exchange of leg kicks, Torres (6-0-0) clinched and set the tone for the rest of the fight by taking Greenway (3-1-0) down. She moved to half-guard and punched from the top while avoiding Greenway’s submission attempts. Torres landed hammerfists, then stood and kicked at Greenway’s legs. She dove in with big punches and landed in mount, then teed off with more punches. Greenway trapped Torres in an inverted body triangle, but Torres stood up and rained down more strikes to close out the round.

Torres was even more dominant in the middle rounds. She landed body kicks and punches in round two, then reversed a takedown and landed in side control. From there, she moved to mount and scored with punches throughout the round. Torres tried for an armbar with seconds to go, but time expired. It was more of the same in round three, as Torres controlled the action on the ground with punches, rear-naked choke attempts and another armbar before the bell.

Greenway tried for a standing guillotine choke early in round four, but Torres escaped and threw her to the mat. Greenway maintained her grip on another guillotine, but Torres stayed calm and took her back. Torres flattened Greenway out and landed punches until Greenway rolled to her side. In the final minute, Torres transitioned to an armbar, but once again ran out of time.

Torres tripped Greenway to the mat after an exchange of strikes in round five. She landed in mount and punched from the top. Greenway was able to lock on another inverted body triangle, but Torres freed herself and took back control. She landed punches and hammerfists and tried for an armbar. Greenway defended, but Torres secured an arm-triangle choke. She could not pass to side control to finish the choke, but flurried with punches until the final bell.

The fight ultimately went the distance and the cageside judges had no trouble in determining a winner. Scores were not announced, but all three judges awarded the fight to Torres. MMARising.com saw the bout 50-42 in Torres’s favour, with 10-8 scores in rounds two, three and five.

Torres will return to action on July 16th to face Stautzenberger in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Winner: Tecia Torres by Unanimous Decision after five 4:00 rounds. She improves to 6-0-0 and becomes the USFFC 115-pound amateur women’s champion.
