UFC 146: "Dos Santos vs Mir" Live Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight for UFC 146: “Dos Santos vs Mir.” The all-heavyweight main card featured UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior “Cigano” dos Santos defending his title against former champ Frank Mir.

Also on tonight’s card, Cain Velasquez returned to action for the first time since November when he faced Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Roy “Big Country” Nelson looked to rebound from a loss in February when he battled Dave Herman. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the UFC 146 card.

 

UFC Heavyweight Championship

Junior “Cigano” dos Santos vs Frank Mir

Round 1:
Mir closed in right away and latched onto dos Santos’s leg. Dos Santos stepped free and the fighters traded punches. A handful of left and right hooks from the outside connected for dos Santos and Mir began to throw kicks. Dos Santos countered a leg kick with a left cross and followed with a combination.

Mir continued to throw kicks and dos Santos answered with left hands. A big right hook to the body scored for dos Santos and he landed stiff jabs soon after. In the final 30 seconds, dos Santos badly rocked Mir and swarmed with punches, but Mir stayed on his feet. He dove for a takedown just before time expired. 10-9 dos Santos.

Round 2:
Dos Santos landed two hooks in the second round and sent Mir to the mat. Mir stood and landed a side kick to the body. Mir was poked in the eye, but the fight continued and dos Santos fired off an occasional right hook. Mir began to land more leg kicks, but dos Santos floored him with a big right hook counter. Dos Santos followed him to the mat with punches and the fight was stopped.

Winner: Junior dos Santos by TKO (Punches) at 3:04 of round two. He improves to 15-1-0 and remains the UFC Heavyweight Champion.

 

Cain Velasquez vs Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva

Round 1:
Velasquez immediately caught a kick and tripped Silva to the mat. He punched from the top, but Silva landed an upkick. Velasquez cut Silva with an elbow and followed with more. Silva began to bleed heavily from the bridge of the nose and blood got in Silva’s eyes. Time was called to check the cut, but the fight was allowed to continue and Velasquez landed punches on the ground.

Velasquez moved to half-guard and scored with more punches. He postured up and landed another flurry. Silva tried to scramble to his feet, but Velasquez kept him down and landed more shots. Silva fell to his back and Velasquez teed off until the bout was finally stopped.

Winner: Cain Velasquez by TKO (Punches) at 3:36 of round one. He improves to 10-1-0.

 

Roy “Big Country” Nelson vs Dave Herman

Round 1:
The fighters circled for the opening 45 seconds until Nelson landed a looping overhand right. Herman collapsed to the mat and Nelson got in one more punch before referee Steve Mazzagatti could rescue Herman.

Winner: Roy Nelson by KO (Punch) at 0:51 of round one. He improves to 17-7-0.

 

Stipe Miocic vs Shane del Rosario

Round 1:
Del Rosario threw body kicks early on and Miocic answered with a right cross. Miocic put together combinations, but del Rosario scored with three hard body kicks. Miocic rushed in with punches and aye another kick to the liver. Del Rosario kicked to the upper body and pushed forward with punches and a head kick. Miocic circled out and threw another combination.

Miocic countered a grazing head kick with more punches. He snuck in an uppercut, but del Rosario landed another hard body kick and a counter left hook. Miocic backpedalled, but regained his footing. Two left crosses backed Miocic up again. An uppercut and a right hook from del Rosario were followed by a head kick. Miocic scored a brief takedown before the bell. 10-9 del Rosario.

Round 2:
Del Rosario landed more body kicks in round two, but Miocic answered with two hooks to the body and head. He took del Rosario down and punched from the top. Miocic tried to pass to mount, but could not. He scored with more punches and stood up. Miocic rained down hammerfists and short elbows from half-guard. He cut del Rosario and continued to punish him with strikes.

Miocic briefly moved to mount before del Rosario fought back to half-guard. Miocic threw a final salvo of elbows and the fight was stopped. Big win for Miocic.

Winner: Stipe Miocic by TKO (Elbows) at 3:14 of round two. He improves to 9-0-0.

 

Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve vs Lavar “Big” Johnson

Round 1:
Johnson rushed forward with punches to the head and body right away. He clinched with Struve against the cage and Struve pulled guard. Struve spun into an armbar from the bottom and Johnson tapped out. His left arm was clearly damaged from the hold.

Winner: Stefan Struve by Submission (Armbar) at 1:05 of round one. He improves to 24-5-0.
