Rising prospect Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff picked up her biggest win to date tonight at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 41 in North London, England. The former 145-pound competitor needed less than two minutes to stop Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly in a 125-pound women’s co-main event.
Gaff, who managed just a single victory in four bouts last year, has now won back-to-back fights by a form of knockout in 2011. Taking control of the bout with Daly right away, Gaff backed her opponent up to the cage with punches and finished the fight with a barrage of knees to the body soon after.
Competing at 125 pounds for the second straight time, Gaff (9-4-1) wasted no time in imposing her size and strength advantage as she backed Daly (10-2-0) up with a big flurry of punches. Daly held strong and clinched, but Gaff muscled her up to the cage. The fighters battled for position, but Gaff began to land knees to the body and short elbows over the top. She followed with five more knees to the body and head, and dropped Daly with a final punching flurry. Referee Marc Goddard moved in to stop the fight, giving Gaff a huge victory as she continues to rise up the ranks.
Winner: Sheila Gaff by TKO (Knees & Punches) at 1:34 of round one. She improves to 9-4-1.
Gaff has fought in high-profile bouts before, and she was well on her way to upsetting Cindy “Battlecat” Dandois at an M-1 Selection event last May before an errant illegal knee opened a fight-ending cut over Dandois’s eye 10 seconds into the third and final round. Gaff was disqualified as a result and suffered another loss – her third in a row – to fellow prospect Milana Dudieva in December.
This year has been kinder to Gaff, as she needed just eight seconds to knock out Hanna Sillen at a February event in Sweden and has now put her name on the mixed martial arts map with the win over Daly. The 21-year-old Gaff has now fought 14 times in four and a half years, and seems to improve with each bout. All nine of her wins have come by knockout or submission.
Unfortunately I missed it.
Will have check tomorrow for the fight.
i think this girl should of been fighting @125 all along because even in this fight with daly she looked smaller than daly. it must of been tough to fight in div two above this one. she looked really good , it was a good fight .i was lucky enough to watch on fight network. it was a competitive fight then all of asudden daly ate a couple knees and got hit with an elbow to the head then a cou[ple more punchs as she was covering up and it was over. this gaff must hit hard because daly is a pretty tough fighter herself
