After her shocking upset victory over Marloes Coenen one year ago, Belgium’s Cindy “Battlecat” Dandois picked up right where she left off at M-1 Selection 2010 today. Dandois defeated Denmark’s Maria Hougaard Nielsen in just over one minute in the event’s headlining bout.
Dandois kept her perfect record intact in the brief but action-filled fight with Nielsen, but she did not have a chance to display new skills learned since the January 2009 clash with Coenen. With two fights to her name, Dandois now has her eyes set squarely on Strikeforce.
Dandois (2-0-0) clinched early on and tried for a takedown, but Nielsen reversed and quickly took Dandois’s back. Nielsen could not secure a choke and a scramble followed, with Dandois taking top position. She scored with hammerfists and short strikes, then stood over Niesen and rained down a trio of solid punches. While Nielsen appeared to be fine, the referee intervened and stopped the fight, giving Dandois the victory by TKO (Punches) at 1:12 of round one.
Following the fight, Dandois was asked whom she would like to face next and she stated that her dream is to fight Gina Carano. That fight could possibly take place should Dandois be entered into the planned Strikeforce 145-pound women’s tournament in June. When asked about a showdown with Strikeforce champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, Dandois said that she would be up for the challenge but wished to take on Carano first.
The sky is the limit for the Belgian, who continues to climb up the 145-pound ranks.
