Jan Finney vs Liz Carmouche Planned For November 19thA 135-pound women’s bout between tough veteran Jan “Cuddles” Finney and unbeaten prospect Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche is in the works for the Strikeforce Challengers 12 card on November 19th. MMARising.com first learned of the possible fight earlier this week and confirmed plans today.

Finney moved up in weight to challenge Strikeforce Women’s Middleweight (145-Pound) Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in June, but was stopped with strikes in the second round. She will now return to 135 pounds to face Carmouche, who won a Strikeforce tournament alternate bout in August.

Four More Fights Added To Valkyrie 8 CardFour more fights have been announced for Greatest Common Multiple’s all-female Valkyrie 8 card on November 28th. Valkyrie Flyweight Champion Yasuko Tamada will face Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama in a non-title bout, while promotional veterans will return in other featured fights.

Unbeaten prospect Ayame “Iris” Miura will face Mayumi “Super Benkei” Aoki in a 58kg bout, while Mika “Hari” Harigai welcomes Chisa Yonezawa back to Valkyrie after a one-year absence. In other action, Kimie “Sakura” Okada will look for her first win when she faces Megumi Morioka.

Zoila Frausto Wins Bellator Women's ChampionshipAs has become a theme in her career, Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Frausto came out on the right end of a controversial Split Decision tonight at Bellator Fighting Championships 34. She edged the previously unbeaten Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii via a contentious five-round decision to become the first ever Bellator 115-Pound Women’s Champion.

Though Fujii appeared to have won at least three rounds, her strategy proved to be her downfall as she opted to stand and trade strikes with Frausto for much of the fight. As a result, she suffered her first defeat in 23 fights.

UFC-WEC Merger Officially Announced For January 2011The long-rumoured merger between Zuffa’s Ultimate Fighting Championship and World Extreme Cagefighting brands will take place in January 2011. MMAFighting.com first reported on the merger, which was later officially announced by UFC President Dana White today.

Reigning WEC champions, including WEC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo, will now be recognised as champions under the UFC brand. Aldo will defend his new UFC title at UFC 125, while the WEC Lightweight Champion will become the number one UFC lightweight contender in 2011.

Amanda Buckner To Face Amanda Nunes In February 2011After nearly three years away, 135-pound standout Amanda Buckner will make her long-awaited return to mixed martial arts action against rising Brazilian star Amanda “Lioness of the Ring” Nunes for the Global Fight League in February 2011. The fight will be contested at 135 pounds.

Buckner was originally scheduled to compete this past January in the first round of the Freestyle Cage Fighting Women’s Bantamweight Grand Prix, but a serious knee injury forced her back to the sidelines. After successful surgery and recovery, Buckner will now face Nunes in February.

Shane Carwin Injured, Out Of UFC 125 BoutFormer UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Shane Carwin has been forced to withdraw from his planned UFC 125 bout with Roy “Big Country” Nelson after suffering a back injury that may require surgery. Carwin announced the injury and his withdrawal on his official website earlier today.

Depending on the severity of the back injury, Carwin could be sidelined from anywhere from 8-12 weeks to an indefinite period. Nelson is still expected to compete on the New Year’s Day card and Fighters Only reports that Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović has expressed interest in stepping in for Carwin.
