A lightweight bout between rising stars Kurt “Batman” Pellegrino and George Sotiropoulos has been added to the main card of UFC 116 in July. The featured fight was officially announced by the UFC earlier today and will propel the winner one step closer to title contention.
Pellegrino has reeled off four straight victories inside the Octagon against formidable competition, including a win over Josh “The Dentist” Neer last August. Sotiropoulos has not lost in over three and a half years and scored a win over one-time title challenger Joe “Daddy” Stevenson at UFC 110.

The Warriors Cage featured a pair of women’s bouts earlier this afternoon at TWC: “Meltdown” at the Eagle Mountain Casino Event Center in Porterville, California. Sisters Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Frausto and Stephanie “Macaquinha” Frausto both picked up stoppage victories.
Zoila weathered a tough first round in her battle with Michelle “Thundercat” Ould before Ould was forced to verbally submit due to an ankle injury in round two. Younger sister Stephanie overwhelmed and battered newcomer Elaine Garza en route to a dominant first-round TKO victory.

Strikeforce returned to the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri tonight with “Heavy Artillery.” The impressive card was headlined by a Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship bout between Alistair “Demolition Man” Overeem and once-beaten challenger Brett “The Grim” Rogers.

Hard-hitting veteran Jan “Cuddles” Finney has been tapped as the next title challenger for Strikeforce Middleweight (145-Pound) Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos on June 26th. Sources confirmed plans for the bout with MMARising.com and it has since been verified by Strikeforce.
Finney had been set to compete in the finals of the Freestyle Cage Fighting Women’s Bantamweight Grand Prix at 135 pounds, but will now be replaced in the FCF tournament by Adrienna “AJ” Jenkins. FCF worked together with Strikeforce in permitting Finney to take the fight with Santos.

King of the Cage returned to HDNet tonight with another championship-filled card at KOTC: “Honor.” The solid event was headlined by a KOTC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between former two-division champion Tony “Kryptonite” Lopez and hard-hitting challenger Mike “MAK” Kyle.

In response to comments made in an interview this week, Strikeforce has stated that undefeated 135-pound women’s champ Sarah Kaufman does indeed still have a current contract with the promotion. MMAFighting.com first posted comments from both Kaufman and Strikeforce.
The situation appears to be similar to that of Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Jake Shields, whose contract with Strikeforce expired following his successful title defence against Dan Henderson. As with Shields, Strikeforce is now working to iron out the contractual issues with Kaufman.

A welterweight bout between hard-hitting strikers Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos and DREAM champ Marius “The Whitemare” Zaromskis is in the works for Strikeforce: “Live” on June 16th. MMAFighting.com was first to report on the planned bout, which would take place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
Santos has been absent from Strikeforce since last June, but scored a first-round victory in Samurai FC in December. He will look to pick up another win against Zaromskis, whose DREAM title will not be on the line.

In the first defence of her Raging Wolf Women’s Flyweight (135-Pound) Championship, Port Colborne, Ontario’s Alexis Davis submitted tough challenger Tonya Evinger in the third round of their main event bout at Raging Wolf 7. Davis battled back after a strong first round from Evinger.
The win got Davis back on the winning track after a razor-thin decision loss to Shayna Baszler at Freestyle Cage Fighting 40 in March. Many observers felt that Davis deserved the win against Baszler, but the rising Canadian star was undeterred and has now won four times by submission.
