Tsumura vs Zhuang, Maruyama vs Okada Set For May 24 In TokyoTwo-time Shoot Boxing JKS48 champion Mio Tsumura looks for her third straight victory when she returns to action on May 24th at “J-Girls X Shoot Boxing” in Tokyo, Japan. Tsumura is set to face Taiwanese boxing gold medallist Kai-Ting “Kill Bee” Zhuang on the co-promoted card.

Tsumura most recently posted an impressive Unanimous Decision win in February. The 20-year-old star now looks to spoil Zhuang’s return to shoot boxing. Also on the card, Erika Maruyama makes her shoot boxing debut against Naoko “Bovy” Okada, who looks to rebound from an August defeat.

Tsumura (15-2-0 SB) captured her second straight 48kg Shoot Boxing title in 2013 and became one of the promotion’s top stars in the process. This past August, she advanced to the finals of the inaugural 48kg Shoot Boxing Japan Girls S-Cup tournament before dropping a close decision to highly-touted prospect Yukari Yamaguchi. Undeterred, Tsumura bounced back with a decision victory over Hana Date one month later, and she outpointed Miho Matsuda on February 21st.

Zhuang (0-1-0 SB) kicked off her shoot boxing career on a big stage at the 2014 Girls S-Cup world championship tournament in August. Debuting in the quarterfinal round, the Taiwanese striker faced off against Australian veteran Christina Jurjevic, but Jurjevic controlled the fight and she ultimately prevailed via a convincing Unanimous Decision. Zhuang now steps back into the shoot boxing ring in search of a big upset victory over Tsumura later this month.

In a second women’s bout, Maruyama (0-0-0 SB) battles Okada (0-1-0 SB) on the preliminary card. Maruyama brings a considerable amount of striking experience into her shoot boxing debut and will likely be a significant favourite against Okada, who suffered a one-sided Unanimous Decision loss in non-tournament action on the August Girls S-Cup card.

“J-Girls X Shoot Boxing” takes place on May 24th at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan.
