Claudia Gadelha vs Joanna Jędrzejczyk Booked For UFC On FOX 13Undefeated strawweight stars Claudia “Claudinha” Gadelha and Joanna Jędrzejczyk are set to collide in a top contender’s bout on December 13th at UFC on FOX 13: “Dos Santos vs Miocic.” The FOX-televised fight card is scheduled to take place at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

UFC officials confirmed plans for the matchup on Friday following an initial report from MMANews.pl. BJJ black belt Gadelha kicked off her UFC career with a Unanimous Decision victory over Tina “Jelly Bean” Lähdemäki in July. Jędrzejczyk defeated Juliana “Ju Thai” de Lima Carneiro at UFC on FOX 12.

Gadelha (12-0-0) is one of MMA’s most decorated female grapplers. The 25-year-old multi-time BJJ world champion scored first-round submission victories over six of her first seven opponents, including current rising star Kalindra Faria, before taking a lengthy hiatus from MMA. She has made significant improvements to her striking and ground and pound during the past two years that have led to a pair of dominant TKO triumphs including a win over former Jewels champ Ayaka Hamasaki at Invicta FC 6. Gadelha now looks to hand Jędrzejczyk her first defeat and earn a UFC title shot in the process.

Jędrzejczyk (7-0-0) has competed in close to 100 kickboxing matches during her combat sports career that includes numerous title reigns. The 27-year-old Polish star made her MMA debut in May 2012 and won three straight fights before taking a big step up in competition to face veteran Julia Berezikova. After defeating the Russian standout, Jędrzejczyk outpointed Karla Benitez in May and knocked out UFC veteran Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton at Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 69. She immediately signed on with the UFC and made a successful Octagon debut by outpointing Lima on July 26th.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is set to crown its first women’s strawweight champion at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale on December 12th. One night later, Gadelha and Jędrzejczyk will face off to determine the number one contender for the new title.

UFC on FOX 13: “Dos Santos vs Miocic” takes place on December 13th at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The event is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Junior “Cigano” dos Santos and Stipe Miocic.

  1. The first TITANIC 115 lb women’s matchup in the UFC – and broadcast on network TV. Gadelha is great, everyone knows that, but if you’ve never seen Jędrzejczyk, my lord are you in for a surprise. This girl can punch like no other Strawweight. Joanna destroyed and retired no less than Rosi Sexton and had a dominant win in her UFC debut against Lima. This will be a great fight — the winner likely to get the first shot at the title against the winner of TUF 20. Can’t wait.

  2. I have never seen a straw weight throw hands with such power. There is only one I can name that is a better striker than the Pole and that is because her kicks are just as devestating as her punches. Can you guys name her???
I will give you a hint…she just made her 115 lb MMA debut and destroyed her opponent in 46 seconds. Any takers???

  3. Another hint…she trains at GFC with Ronda Rousey…

  4. Mike, Germaine de Randamie is a more accomplished kickboxer (around 5 world titles, 37-0 record, longest winning streak in history), but she didn’t transition that well to MMA.

Let’s wait and see how Jemyna does against some highlevel grapplers and wrestlers.

  5. True, but Jemyma Betrian sure shows promise. And damn is she cute.

  6. Yeah…you are right…if she can’t pick up the ground phase of MMA then she is in for trouble. All the reports coming out of GFC say she is like a sponge…and she sure has the best teacher she could ever wish for in RR. I don’t know how old de Randamie is but after seeing her fight MMA I don’t see how she compiled a record like she has. Betrian is a fireball of energy with 35 stand up wins at only 23 years old (she just turned 23 in July). I don’t think Edmund is going to rush her into anything but I wish he would! I would love to see her against Carla Esparza now! Good thing I am not a coach and trainer, ha ha.
But…the Pole (I can’t say or spell her name)…her power at that weight just amazes me. I thought for sure she would knock out Lima…oh well
Anybody making the trip to Iowa at the end of the week?? Cageside seats are only $114!!!

  7. Hey Mike, the guy interviewing Jędrzejczyk after her fight with Lima actually had to ask her how she pronounces her name – and you would never guess based on how it’s spelled. I think Poland uses a different alphabet that doesn’t translate to ours very well. She said it’s pronounced something like “Jen-JEL-check”.

Oh yeah I wish I could go to Davenport. Barb Honchak’s back yard. She is one nice lady too, and actually followed me on Twitter – so cool of her. Honchak and Lauren Murphy are really great to their fans.
