Jessica Aguilar vs Emi Fujino Title Bout In The Works For WSOF 10WSOF Women’s Strawweight Champion Jessica “Jag” Aguilar is expected to make the first defence of her title against veteran Japanese contender Emi “Kamikaze Angel” Fujino at World Series of Fighting 10. The event is set for June 21st at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MMARising.com confirmed plans for the championship fight tonight with Fujino’s manager, Shu Hirata. Aguilar became WSOF’s inaugural female champion in January when she submitted the previously unbeaten Alida Gray. Her targeted opponent, Fujino, has won four of her past six fights.

Aguilar (17-4-0) is currently riding an eight-fight winning streak and stands atop the 115-pound women’s rankings. However, the American Top Team standout has faced her fair share of controversy during the past two years thanks to contentious decision victories over “Little” Patricia Vidonic and MMA legend Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii. In October, Aguilar travelled to Japan and defeated Fujii for a second time in a disappointing bout that ended when Fujii could not continue as a result of two damaging eye pokes.

In late 2013, Aguilar made headlines by signing on as WSOF’s second female fighter and its first active female competitor. While most of the women’s strawweight division’s top talent joined the cast of The Ultimate Fighter 20, Aguilar took a chance by joining the WSOF roster. She captured the promotion’s inaugural 115-pound women’s title by submitting Gray on January 18th. Opponents remain very scarce for Aguilar, but she will face a formidable foe in Fujino this summer.

Fujino (13-7-0) has long been regarded as one of Japan’s top female competitors. However, untimely losses to former Jewels champ Ayaka Hamasaki and teen prodigy Mizuki Inoue have delayed Fujino’s dream of capturing a major MMA title. Having faced many of the sport’s top female talent in Japan, Fujino signed on with WSOF earlier this year. She was in talks to compete tonight at WSOF 9, but when an opponent could not be secured, Fujino was installed as the next challenger for Fujino’s title.

  1. Jag signed before UFC bought the Invicta fighters. Otherwise she never would have bothered with WSOF.
