Mexico’s Xtreme Kombat promotion will crown its first women’s flyweight champion on August 31st at Xtreme Kombat 20 in the city of Cuautitlán Izcalli. A four-woman grand prix tournament featuring some of the country’s top prospects will determine the promotion’s inaugural female titleholder.

Among those competing in the title tournament is former bantamweight standout Anely “Neka” Jimenez, who has yet to taste defeat in seven fights. Jimenez drops down to 125 following a victory in November. She is joined in the tournament by Alexa Grasso, Karina Rodriguez and Sandra Chimeyo.

Jimenez (7-0-0) is arguably the brightest female prospect in Mexico today. She began her career in April 2008 and knocked out or submitted each of her first six opponents over the next three years. In her most recent fight at Xtreme Kombat 18 in November, Jimenez went the distance for the first time as a professional and earned a Unanimous Decision victory over Wendy “El Princesa” Arellano. She now makes the move down to the flyweight division.

Grasso (2-0-0) has made the most of her two fights to date by scoring a pair of first-round knockout victories. After making quick work of Sandra del Rincon in December, Grasso returned to action in May and finished Lupita Hernandez at Fight Hard Championship 3. Though she lacks Jimenez’s experience, Grasso’s formidable striking power could be enough to earn her the Xtreme Kombat title.

Rounding out the field, Rodriguez (1-0-0) and Chimeyo (0-0-0) both enter the tournament in hopes of upsetting the more experienced competitors. Rodriguez won her lone MMA bout to date in her debut for Xtreme Kombat when she stopped Gabriela Garcia inside of two minutes. Chimeyo will compete as a professional for the first time in the tournament.

Xtreme Kombat 20 is set for August 31st at Urban Seel Fitness Center in Cuautitlán Izcalli, Mexico. The semi-final matchups for the women’s championship tournament have not yet been announced.
