Kaitlin Young To Face Elaina Maxwell At CCF 6: BushidoA PRIDE rules bout between Kaitlin Young and Elaina “Beef” Maxwell has been added to the newly-rescheduled Colosseo Championship Fighting 6: “Bushido” card on September 3rd in Sangudo, Alberta, Canada. A source close to the negotiations confirmed the fight with MMARising.com today.

CCF 6 was set to take place on July 23rd, but as noted by MMAjunkie.com, the event was postponed after necessary paperwork was not filed with the commission in time. All bouts on the card will use rules and weight classes in line with that of the former Pride Fighting Championships promotion.

Update: While initially planned, this fight has now been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.

Young (4-5-0)* opened her career with four straight knockout wins, including a victory over upcoming Strikeforce title challenger Miesha “Takedown” Tate, and became HOOKnSHOOT Women’s Grand Prix Champion in 2007. She has struggled in recent bouts against high-profile opponents, however, as she has alternated between fights at 135 and 140 pounds. Most recently, she dropped a close decision to recent Strikeforce signee Julie “Fireball” Kedzie in a five-round Jackson’s MMA Series title fight. She was out of action for much of 2010 during filming of the Ultimate Women Challenge competition.

Maxwell (5-4-0) has also faced ups and downs in her career, but she has won three of her last four fights and holds wins over Raging Wolf champion Alexis Davis and Strikeforce veteran Shana “Rock Solid” Olsen, who stopped Young in late 2009. The talented kickboxer is no stranger to high-profile bouts, herself, and has faced many of the same opponents as Young during her nine-fight career to date. Her lone defeat in the last three years came in a title fight with Shayna “The Queen of Spades” Baszler for The Cage Inc. last November.

The bout between Young and Maxwell, like all others planned for the card, will not be contested under the traditional Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. Instead, the PRIDE rule system will be in place, which permits knees, soccer kicks and stomps to the head on the ground. Elbows to the head will not be allowed. The promotion will utilise 10-minute opening rounds and five-minute rounds thereafter. Non-title bouts will be two rounds, while title fights will be contested over three.

Young and Maxwell will compete in the “Featherweight” division at 141 pounds. Maxwell notes that she has not yet officially signed a contract with CCF for the planned fight. Young signed on in mid-May and originally expected to compete later in September.

Colosseo Championship Fighting 6: “Bushido” now takes place on September 3rd in Sangudo, Alberta, Canada. The small hamlet of Sangudo sports a population of approximately 400 people and is roughly 118 kilometres Northwest of Edmonton. The event’s main card is still expected to stream live online on Internet pay-per-view via Ustream.tv.

*Note: Young’s listed record does not include a bout which took place during the filming of the Ultimate Women Challenge reality show on September 24th in St. George, Utah; the result of which remains under wraps due to ongoing litigation.
