Carlos Condit vs Paul Daley In The WorksIn a fight with major title implications, former WEC Welterweight Champion “The Natural Born Killer” Carlos Condit is rumoured to be taking on British knockout artist Paul “Semtex” Daley in a featured welterweight bout at UFC 108 in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 2, 2010.

Both fighters are coming off of wins, though they came in vastly different manners. Condit escaped with a razor-thin Split Decision over Jake Ellenberger at UFC Fight Night 19 on September 16th, while Daley stopped top contender Martin Kampmann at UFC 103 three days later.

Daley (22-8-2) made the most of his last-minute opportunity against Kampmann, who was originally set to face Mike Swick at UFC 103 in a #1 contender’s bout. Daley rocked Kampmann and forced a referee stoppage in the first round, which immediately vaulted him to the top tier of the UFC’s welterweight division.

Condit (24-5-0) lost his UFC debut to Kampmann in a controversial Split Decision, but gained a measure of revenge with the Split Decision win over Ellenberger. However, both fights ended with controversial scoring and Condit will no doubt aim to end the fight with Daley before it makes it to the judges.

Of Daley’s 32 career fights, just six have gone the distance, while Condit has only fought to a decision on three occasions. Condit’s victory over Ellenberger was the first time that he had won by decision.

Daley’s game plan will once again be no secret, as his punching power is arguably the best of anyone at 170. Those who stand and trade with him, as Kampmann found out the hard way, do not tend to stay on their feet (or conscious) for long.

Condit’s submission prowess is well-documented and he is among the most skilled of any welterweight when working from his back. However, Daley won’t want to stay on the ground for long and Condit will need to use every trick in the book to secure a submission over his powerful opponent.

The fight has not yet been officially confirmed, but it would be the next logic step for the division. With Mike Swick set to face Dan Hardy at UFC 105 in November, the winners of each bout would presumably square off to determine the next title challenger.

UFC 108 will air live on January 2, 2010 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
