UFC 202: “Diaz vs McGregor 2” Live Play-By-Play & ResultsThe Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight for UFC 202: “Diaz vs McGregor 2.” The event was headlined by a welterweight grudge rematch between rivals Nate Diaz and reigning UFC Featherweight Champion “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.

In tonight’s light heavyweight co-feature, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Glover Teixeira met in a bout between two of the division’s top contenders. At 170 pounds, Rick “The Horror” Story battled Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for tonight’s UFC 202 card.

 

“The Notorious” Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz

Round 1:
McGregor struck first with a series of leg kicks and Diaz answered back with a one-two. McGregor stunned him with two left hands and dropped him with a third. He allowed Diaz to stand and Diaz landed another one-two. More hard leg kicks landed for McGregor and the fighters traded punches. McGregor’s leg kicks slowed Diaz down and Diaz began to bleed from a small cut near the right eye. McGregor clipped him with a two-punch combo before the bell. 10-9 McGregor.

Round 2:
McGregor floored Diaz with a left cross early in round two, but once again allowed him to stand back up. He knocked Diaz down for a second time and beckoned him to stand up. Diaz, bleeding from the nose, returned to his feet. The fighters traded power punches and McGregor landed a lead right hook. He continued to punish Diaz’s lead leg with kicks, but Diaz finally found some success with his punching combinations. He unloaded with a big flurry against the cage, but McGregor appeared to be unfazed. Diaz finished the round strong with punches and knees. 10-9 McGregor.

Round 3:
Diaz pressed the action with kick-punch combos in the third round and he pinned a fading McGregor against the cage. McGregor broke free and landed a hard one-two that backed Diaz up. Diaz began to taunt and he caught a spinning back kick. The fighters clinched and McGregor stuffed a takedown. He landed an elbow, but Diaz flurried to the body as the fighters separated. McGregor kicked at Diaz’s lead leg and Diaz responded with a one-two and a head kick. He backed McGregor up against the cage and blasted him with punches and knees to the head and body. 10-9 Diaz.

Round 4:
McGregor opened a cut on Diaz’s right cheek with a left hook in the fourth round and blood streamed down Diaz’s face. Diaz struggled to see and he slowed down as McGregor targeted his body with punches. Diaz nearly took him down, but McGregor stayed on his feet against the cage. Both men landed standing elbows in the clinch and McGregor flurried with punches as the fighters separated. Diaz wobbled him with a combination, but McGregor recovered and punched to the body. He landed overhand lefts to Diaz’s temple and Diaz slipped while throwing a head kick. 10-9 McGregor.

Round 5:
The final round began with an exchange of punches and Diaz clinched against the fence. McGregor circled out and Diaz’s vision continued to be hampered by blood streaming down his face. He closed in and tried to take McGregor down, but could not. A fatigued McGregor broke free and flurried to the body and head. Diaz answered back with a big combination of his own. He held McGregor against the cage while working for a takedown. McGregor tripped Diaz for a split second, but Diaz immediately stood back up and scored a big takedown that allowed him to finish the round with ground and pound. 10-9 Diaz.

Winner: Conor McGregor by Majority Decision (48-47, 48-47, 47-47) after five rounds. He improves to 20-3-0.

 

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson vs Glover Teixeira

Round 1:
Teixeira pressed forward with punches right away, but Johnson landed a massive uppercut that sent him crashing to the canvas. Johnson landed a handful of follow-up shots to the face of an unconscious Teixeira before the fight was waved off.

Winner: Anthony Johnson by KO (Punch) at 0:13 of round one. He improves to 22-5-0.

 

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone vs Rick “The Horror” Story

Round 1:
The fighters traded strikes right away and Cerrone took Story down after landing a leg kick. Story exploded out to his feet and tried for a takedown of his own against the cage. He tripped Cerrone to the mat, but Cerrone countered with an omoplata and then a triangle choke. Story escaped into side control, then took Cerrone’s back and landed punches and knees to the body. Cerrone rose to his feet and landed a knee to the body. Story responded with kicks and an exchange of leg kicks followed. Cerrone backed Story up with punches in the final minute. 10-9 Cerrone.

Round 2:
Power punches were exchanged early in round two and Cerrone landed a knee to the ribs. He targeted Story’s lead leg with kicks and followed with another knee. Cerrone knocked Story off-balance with a left hook and badly rocked him with a head kick. Story stumbled backwards and Cerrone dropped him with a knee. He unloaded with punches until the fight was stopped.

Winner: Donald Cerrone by TKO (Head Kick, Knee & Punches) at 2:02 of round two. He improves to 31-7-0, 1 NC.

 

“Platinum” Mike Perry vs Hyun Gyu “The Ace” Lim

Round 1:
Perry landed solid leg kicks in the opening minute and Lim countered with right hands. He landed an uppercut and avoided a lunging left hook. Perry dropped him with a right hand soon after and followed with elbows from a top-side crucifix. Lim managed to escape to his feet, but he ate some hard shots on the way up. A massive right hook sent Lim crashing to the canvas, but he survived a follow-up onslaught on the ground. Lim stood and Perry sent him face-first to the canvas with a left hook. He landed two more punches before referee John McCarthy finally stopped the fight.

Winner: Mike Perry by KO (Punches) at 3:38 of round one. He improves to 8-0-0.

 

Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means vs Sabah “The Problem” Homasi

Round 1:
Means countered Homasi’s early leg kicks with hard left hands and he tossed him to the ground. Homasi got to his knees and tripped Means to the mat. Means stood and landed another nice left hand. Homasi fired off a one-two and the fighters traded big power punches. Means mixed in knees and he targeted the body with straight punches. Homasi took him down against the cage and Means countered with elbows to the arm before standing up. He cut Homasi with elbows and followed with more of them as Homasi bled heavily from the forehead. 10-9 Means.

Round 2:
Means kept the pressure on with elbows that re-opened the cut on Homasi’s forehead. He picked Homasi apart with body kicks, knees and left hooks. Means scored with two knees and more elbows, then followed with a right hook to the temple. He hurt Homasi with jabs and punching flurries that opened up more cuts. A final barrage of punches from Means prompted referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.

Winner: Tim Means by TKO (Punches) at 2:56 of round two. He improves to 26-7-1.
