Deep Jewels 12 Live Play-By-Play & ResultsDeep Jewels held its 12th all-female fight card on Sunday at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. Deep Jewels 12 featured a vacant atomweight title bout between former Deep Jewels interim strawweight champion Emi Tomimatsu and one-time Jewels 106-pound titleholder Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama.

In Sunday’s atomweight co-feature, recent title challenger Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka looked to get back on the winning track when she faced Hana Date. Yuko “Amiba” Oya met Nori Date in a 54kg catchweight contest. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the Deep Jewels 12 card.

 

Deep Jewels Atomweight Championship – 3×5

Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama vs Emi Tomimatsu

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Both fighters circle to the left and Sugiyama lands a right hook for a flash knockdown. Tomimatsu stands and clinches, where she tries to dirty box. Sugiyama lands knees and pushes away from the clinch. The fighters circle again and Sugiyama drops Tomimatsu with another right hand. Tomimatsu returns to her feet and Sugiyama throws knees to the body late in the round.

Round 2:
Tomimatsu lands jabs in round two and takes Sugiyama’s back on the feet. Sugiyama spins around and Tomimatsu lands a big right hook. Sugiyama is hurt and Tomimatsu clinches. Sugiyama buys time to recover and eventually shrugs her off. She lands a left hook and Tomimatsu responds with knees to the leg. Sugiyama breaks free and lands a right-left combo in the final seconds.

Round 3:
Sugiyama jabs in the final round until Tomimatsu closes the distance and clinches. Sugiyama pushes her away and Tomimatsu connects with a straight right hand. She punches her way into a clinch, but there is little action and the referee calls for a break. Tomimatsu lands more right hands after the restart and she tries for a body-lock takedown. Sugiyama appears to be fatigued, but she stays on her feet until the bell.

Judges Hidenobu Koike, Masato Fukuda and Yoshinori Umeki all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Sugiyama.

Winner: Naho Sugiyama by Unanimous Decision after three 5:00 rounds. She improves to 12-4-0 and becomes the new Deep Jewels Atomweight Champion.

 

Atomweight Bout – 3×5

Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka vs Hana Date

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Yoshinori Umeki. Hana holds her right arm out and circles. She lands a body kick and Ishioka takes her down with a harai goshi throw. Hana immediately stands back up, but Ishioka throws her down again. She attempts an armbar, but Hana escapes. Ishioka quickly grabs on to Hana’s arm again and secures another armbar. Hana tries to break free by slamming Ishioka, but Ishioka extends her arm and referee Umeki waves off the fight. Hana did not tap and she is not pleased with the stoppage.

Winner: Saori Ishioka by Technical Submission (Armbar) at 4:39 of round one. She improves to 14-9-0.

 

54kg MMA Bout – 2×5

Nori Date vs Yuko “Amiba” Oya

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. Nori puts her right arm forward to gauge distance and begins circling. She throws side kicks and Oya comes up short with a left-right combo. Nori lands a front kick to body and hurts Oya with a spinning back kick. She lands punches until Oya shoots in for a takedown. Nori sprawls and lands hamnerfists. She pushes Oya to the mat and moves to side control, then lands more hammerfists until the bell.

Round 2:
Oya works for a single-leg takedown in the second round, but Nori sprawls. Oya switches to a waist tackle and takes Nori down into full guard. Oya stands and drops down into Nori’s half-guard. She lands punches, then stands up and moves back to half-guard again. The fighters are stood up after a lull in the action and Oya attempts a takedown before time expires.

Judges Hidenobu Koike, Yoshinori Umeki and Kenichi Serizawa all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Nori.

Winner: Nori Date by Unanimous Decision after two 5:00 rounds. She improves to 1-2-0.

 

Strawweight Grappling Match – 2×4

Natsumi Mukai vs Mika “Future Princess” Nagano

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Yoshinori Umeki. Nagano secures a single-leg takedown, but Mukai scrambles back to her feet. Nagano attempts another single-leg and Mukai sprawls. She takes top position after moving to Nagano’s back. Mukai tries for a kimura and an armbar from North-South position, but she is unable to finish before the bell.

Round 2:
Nagano counters a clinch with a takedown attempt in round two, but Mukai scrambles and the fighters get tangled in the ropes. After a restart, Nagano scores a single-leg takedown into half-guard. She moves to mount in search of an armbar, but takes too much time and Mukai sweeps late in the round.

Judge Hidenobu Koike scores the match for Nagano. Judges Kenichi Serizawa and Masato Fukuda both have it for the winner by Split Decision, Mukai.

Winner: Natsumi Mukai by Split Decision after two 4:00 rounds.

 

Atomweight Bout – 2×5

Mina Kurobe vs Renju Date

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Hidenobu Koike. Renju lands a hard left cross and tries to brawl, but Kurobe counters by shooting in and taking Renju down into mount. Kurobe postures up and lands numerous punches from mount until the fight is waved off.

Winner: Mina Kurobe by TKO (Punches) at 1:25 of round one. She improves to 7-2-0.

 

Strawweight Bout – 2×5

Tomo Maesawa vs Karei Date

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. Karei begins the fight with two Yellow Cards due to missing weight by 1.52kg. Maesawa catches a kick in the opening minute and takes Karei down. Karei tries to take Maesawa’s back as the fight hits the mat, but Maesawa stands and scores a single-leg takedown into mount. She lands more than 15 unanswered punches until the referee is forced to step in.

Winner: Tomo Maesawa by TKO (Punches) at 2:30 of round one. She improves to 6-5-0.

 

Atomweight Bout – 2×5

Yuko Kiryu vs Real Date

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Kiryu uses low kicks to outstrike Karei early on. Real throws front kicks, but Kiryu outlands her by a considerable margin. She scores with clinch knees until the referee calls for a break. Real lands left jab, right straight combos and follows with a knee. She dirty boxes and lands left hooks late in the round.

Round 2:
Real clinches, but Kiryu turns her around and pushes her into a corner. Real tries to break free, but Kiryu lands knees until the fighters are separated. Kiryu secures a double-leg takedown into side control. She finishes the round with a barrage of punches and hammerfists.

Judges Masato Fukuda, Yoshinori Umeki and Hidenobu Koike all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Kiryu.

Winner: Yuko Kiryu by Unanimous Decision after two 5:00 rounds. She improves to 1-2-0.

 

Amateur Atomweight MMA Bout – 2×3

Karen Date vs Ayumi Misaka

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. Karen, like her Date teammates, puts her arm forward and throws front kicks. Misaka secures a waist tackle, but Karen sprawls and lands a knee to the body. Misaka shoots in for another takedown and the referee calls for a break. Karen lands a front kick before the bell.

Round 2:
Misaka clinches and works for a takedown again, but Karen sprawls in the corner. Karen clinches after landing a front kick and Misaka attempts a leg-trip takedown. She is unable to get Karen down and Karen takes her back on the feet. She pulls Misaka down and tries for a rear-naked choke, then switches to a hammerlock. Misaka’s corner throws in the towel with four seconds remaining in the fight.

Winner: Karen Date by Technical Submission (Hammerlock) at 2:56 of round two.
