Marion Reneau Submits Jéssica Andrade At UFC Fight Night 61Fresh off of a commanding victory in her UFC debut this past month, Marion “The Belizean Bruiser” Reneau earned another big win tonight at UFC Fight Night 61: “Bigfoot vs Mir” in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Reneau submitted heavy favourite Jéssica “Bate Estaca” Andrade in the first round.

Tonight’s fight ended quickly, but the victory did not come easily for Reneau. She was dropped by a flurry of punches from Andrade in the opening 75 seconds, but recovered well on the ground and locked on a triangle choke from her back. Andrade was unable to escape and reluctantly tapped out.

Reneau (6-1-0) closed the distance and looked to clinch in the opening seconds, but Andrade (12-4-0) created space by punching to the head and body. Reneau responded with a right cross and a quick flurry, but Andrade dropped her with a three-punch combination. She dove in with more punches on the ground, but left an opening for Reneau, who framed up a triangle choke. Andrade appeared to be okay, but Reneau tightened the choke and a now-bloodied Andrade was forced to submit at the 1:54 mark.

The impressive win tonight marked the second straight time that Reneau had scored a significant upset inside the UFC Octagon. At UFC 182, she stepped in on short notice and battered an overweight Alexis “Sneaky Zebra” Dufresne for three rounds en route to one of the most lopsided decisions in recent memory. She now takes a big step up in the women’s bantamweight rankings.

Winner: Marion Reneau by Submission (Triangle Choke) at 1:54 of round one. She improves to 6-1-0.

  1. There’s no way not to like Reneau!

  2. A number of women have bjj credentials. But Renaeu is the first I have ever seen that really translate her abilities to the ring. Andrade in the loss still showed she is amazing striker. High level wmma on display in this fight.
