Deep Jewels 5 Live Play-By-Play & ResultsDeep Jewels staged its fifth all-female fight card tonight at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. Deep Jewels 5 was headlined by a Deep Jewels Lightweight Championship rematch between interim titleholder Emi Tomimatsu and teen prodigy Mizuki Inoue. Tonight’s bout determined an undisputed champion.

Also on the card, ex-Jewels champs met when former Jewels Lightweight Queen Champion Ayaka Hamasaki dropped to 106 pounds to face one-time Jewels Featherweight Queen Champion Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama in the co-main event. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for Deep Jewels 5.

 

52kg Deep Jewels Lightweight Championship – 3×5

Mizuki Inoue vs Emi Tomimatsu

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Yoshinori Umeki. Inoue jabbed and Tomimatsu countered with right hands and leg kicks early on. Both fighters landed combinations and Inoue followed with a front kick to the face. Tomimatsu scored with an overhand right and Inoue jabbed again. A series of quick combinations were exchanged and Inoue answered Tomimatsu’s right hands with leg kicks. She pressed forward with a crisp flurry and another leg kick. Inoue stuck to her jab and Tomimatsu threw more overhand rights. Late in the round, Inoue landed left-right combos and Tomimatsu countered with knees in the clinch.

Round 2:
Inoue was more aggressive early in round two and she landed punching combinations followed by a kick to the body. She backed Tomimatsu into the corner with a flurry of punches and Tomimatsu reversed against the ropes. The fighters were separated and Tomimatsu landed a looping right hand. Inoue pinned her in the corner again and scored with knees to the body and punches over the top. Tomimatsu punched free of the clinch, but Inoue forced her to backpedal again with a nice combination. Tomimatsu shot in for a takedown and took Inoue’s back as the fight returned to the feet. Inoue landed body kicks and punches in the final seconds.

Round 3:
Inoue stuffed a takedown and took Tomimatsu’s back in round three. She dragged her to the ground and wound up on top in half-guard. She took Tomimatsu’s back again as Tomimatsu attempted to scramble back to her feet. Inoue isolated Tomimatsu’s arm in an armbar and the interim champion was forced to submit at the 1:33 mark.

Winner: Mizuki Inoue by Submission (Armbar) at 1:33 of round three. She improves to 8-2-0 and becomes the Undisputed Deep Jewels Lightweight Champion.

Ayaka Hamasaki vs Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Both women were aggressive with punches right away and Hamasaki dropped Sugiyama with a one-two. She followed with more punches as Sugiyama got back to her feet. Sugiyama landed two right hands, but they seemed to have little effect on Hamasaki, who answered with a pair of lead right hooks and a takedown into side control.

Hamasaki pepperd Sugiyama with punches from the scarf hold position and Sugiyama was unable to buck free. Hamasaki moved to side control and trapped Sugiyama’s arm behind her back as Sugiyama tried to fight back to her feet. Sugiyama could not defend herself and Hamasaki landed unanswered punches until the fight was stopped at the 4:01 mark.

Winner: Ayaka Hamasaki by TKO (Punches) at 4:01 of round one. She improves to 10-1-0.

 

48kg Deep Jewels Grappling Rules – 2×4

Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka vs Yukiko Seki

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Akira Yamazaki. Ishioka attempted to whip Seki to the mat in round one, but Seki defended well on each occasion and remained on her feet. Ishioka jumped into a guillotine choke and she used it to pull Seki down to the mat. Seki pulled her head free and Ishioka attempted an armbar. She used an ankle pick to trip Seki and took top position, but Seki quickly swept. Ishioka locked on another guillotine choke and Seki escaped again. The fighters stood and Seki reversed a takedown into half-guard.

Round 2:
Seki threw Ishioka to the ground in the second round, but Ishioka immediately reversed into a top-side guillotine choke. She mounted Seki and tightened her grip on the choke, but Seki rolled over back into Ishioka’s guard and pulled her head free. Ishioka transitioned to back control in a scramble and she worked for a rear-naked choke, but lost the position in the process. From her back, Ishioka secured a triangle choke and Seki quickly escaped. Seki attempted a heel hook, but she could not get it before the final bell.

Judges Kenichi Serizawa, Masato Fukuda and Yoshinori Umeki all score the match for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Ishioka.

Winner: Saori Ishioka by Unanimous Decision after two rounds.

Yuko “Amiba” Oya vs Sachiko Fujimori

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Yoshinori Umeki. Fujimori landed an early right hand and was immediately taken down by Oya against the ropes. Fujimori stood and Oya dumped her to the mat again. She could not keep her down for long, however, and Fujimori got back to her feet in the corner. She sprawled and stuffed a takedown, then mounted Oya and rained down punches.

Oya swept into Fujimori’s guard and the fighters traded punches on the ground. This time, Oya mounted Fujimori and she landed some hard punches of her own. Oya secured an armbar, but Fujimori managed to roll through and escaped. Oya continued to drop punches from the top in mount position until Fujimori gave up her back. She scrambled and mounted Oya again, then finished the round strong with ground and pound. Excellent round.

Round 2:
Fujimori sprawled out of a takedown attempt in round two, but Oya continued to drive forward until she was able to get her down. Oya postured up in Fujimori’s half-guard and landed punches with both hands. Fujimori tried to use the ropes to get back to her feet, but Oya kept her pinned down with a partial headlock. She stood over Fujimori and dropped right hands.

Fujimori reversed position and took Oya’s back in a scramble. She worked for a rear-naked choke and got her forearm under Oya’s chin. Oya turned into the choke and broke Fujimori’s grip, then flurried with punches from top position. Fujimori countered with an armbar attempt and Oya punched her way free. She landed more short right hands before the end of the action-packed fight.

Judges Akira Yamazaki, Kenichi Serizawa and Masato Fukuda all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Oya.

Winner: Yuko Oya by Unanimous Decision after two rounds. She improves to 8-3-0.

Mina Kurobe vs Masako Yoshida

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. Yoshida opened the action with leg kicks and Kurobe countered by rushing forward in search of a takedown. Both women landed short knees to the body and Fujimori threw a one-two combo. The referee called for a break and Kurobe cracked Yoshida with a big right hand. She worked for a takedown, but the ropes got in the way and Yoshida wound up on top. Kurobe swept into Yoshida’s guard and Yoshida eyed a leglock. Kurobe momentarily passed to side control and landed punches before Yoshida regained her guard.

Round 2:
Kurobe backed Yoshida into a corner in round two and she landed a nice right hook soon after. Yoshida turned away in the clinch and Kurobe threw knees to the back of her thigh. After a lull in the action, the fighters were separated and Yoshida fired off a combination. Kurobe countered with knees to the body and she looked to sweep out Yoshida’s back leg. Kurobe landed right hands in the clinch until referee Fukuda called for another break. In the final 30 seconds, Kurobe landed more punches to the head and body and Yoshida responded with knees.

Judges Akira Yamazaki, Kenichi Serizawa and Yoshinori Umeki all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Kurobe.

Winner: Mina Kurobe by Unanimous Decision after two rounds. She improves to 3-0-0.

Miyoko Kusaka vs Tamaki Usui

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. The fighters battled for position in the corner early on, but neither one was able to secure a takedown. A lengthy clinch ensued until Usui briefly created space and backed away. She pressed forward and clinched again, but Kusaka reversed against the ropes. Usui landed knees to the body until referee Fukuda called for a break. Usui clinched once more, but Kusaka reversed a takedown into mount. Usui rolled over and Kusaka landed a series of punches and hammerfists from back control.

Round 2:
The second round began with an exchange of leg kicks and overhand rights. The fighters clinched and Kusaka held Usui in the corner. Usui circled out and both women landed quick combinations. After a brief clinch, Usui landed a nice right hand and Kusaka responded by taking her down. She locked on an armbar from mount and referee Fukuda stopped the fight at the 2:40 mark.

Winner: Miyoko Kusaka by Technical Submission (Armbar) at 2:40 of round two. She improves to 5-8-1.

 

52kg Deep Jewels Grappling Rules – 2×4

Satomi “Sarami” Takano vs Ayaka Miura

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Miura took Takano down into guard early in the opening round, but Takano scrambled from the bottom and managed to work back to her feet. Miura held her in the corner and she used a headlock throw to get Takano back down. Takano stood and Miura took her down in the corner. She passed to side control before the bell.

Round 2:
Takano backed Miura into a corner in round two, but Miura swept her leg out and scored a takedown into guard. Takano locked on a triangle choke from the bottom and Miura tried to slam her way free. She could not escape and Takano looked to switch to an armbar. Miura eventually broke free from the hold and she wound up on top in side control. She attempted a scarf hold armlock, but time expired.

Judge Yoshinori Umeki scores the match for Miura, while judges Akira Yamazaki and Masato Fukuda have it for the winner by Split Decision, Takano.

Winner: Satomi Takano by Split Decision after two rounds.

 

48kg Deep Jewels Grappling Rules – 2×4

Yoshiko Kimata vs Sayuri Yamaguchi

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Akira Yamazaki. Yamaguchi secured a takedown early in the match and worked from Kimata’s guard, but she was unable to advance her position and the referee stood the fighters up. Yamaguchi took Kimata back down, but she was once again unable to mount much grappling offence. Back on the feet, Kimata attempted to jump guard and Yamaguchi dropped her down to the mat before the bell.

Round 2:
Yamaguchi immediately took Kimata down in round two, but Kimata’s guard remained solid and she looked to set up an armbar from her back. Later in the round, Kimata locked on a triangle choke and she used it to roll into mount. Yamaguchi swept back into Kimata’s guard, but she remained trapped in the choke. Kimata maintained the choke and she attempted to transition to a triangle armbar just before time expired.

Judges Kenichi Serizawa, Yoshinori Umeki and Masato Fukuda all score the match for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Kimata.

Winner: Yoshiko Kimata by Unanimous Decision after two rounds.
