Deep Jewels 4 Live Play-By-Play & ResultsDeep Jewels staged its fourth all-female fight card today at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. Deep Jewels 4 was headlined by the first Deep Jewels Middleweight Championship matchup between promotional star Shizuka Sugiyama and former Smackgirl 128-pound champion Takayo Hashi.

Today’s co-main event featured the return of former Jewels postergirl Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka, who took on prospect Satomi “Sarami” Takano. Deep Jewels Featherweight Champion Seo Hee Ham faced Yuuki Kira in a kickboxing match. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the card.

Takayo Hashi vs Shizuka Sugiyama

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. Sugiyama landed quick jabs and right hands early in the title fight and she backed Hashi into a corner. Hashi broke free and Sugiyama landed more punches and a body kick. Hashi landed a counter left hook and Sugiyama lost her balance, but she quickly returned to her feet and closed in with punches. Hashi landed a knee and she began to pick up the pace with combinations. Two short knees scored for Sugiyama and Hashi answered with a right hook. In the final minute, Hashi took Sugiyama down. She mounted her and landed punches, then trapped Sugiyama in a triangle choke as time ran out.

Round 2:
Both women landed punching combinations early in round two and Sugiyama snapped off a two-punch combo followed by a leg kick. Hashi clinched and took her down against the ropes. She landed punches with her right hand as Sugiyama worked back to her feet. Hashi pinned her against the ropes and the fighters exchanged knees until referee Serizawa called for a break. Hashi countered kicks from Sugiyama with stiff jabs and she clinched once more. Hashi backed Sugiyama up with lunging punches just before the bell.

Round 3:
Hashi clinched immediately in round three and she once again held Sugiyama against the ring ropes. Sugiyama was unable to create space and she ate a series of short uppercuts. Sugiyama managed to circle out, but Hashi tagged her with a combination. Sugiyama scored a much-needed takedown and took Hashi’s back as Hashi stood up.

Sugiyama dragged Hashi back down, but Hashi wound up on top in side control. Sugiyama scrambled, but Hashi kept her down and she landed short left hands. Hashi looked for a kimura and an arm-triangle choke, but Sugiyama defended. Hashi mounted her and landed punches that forced Sugiyama to give up her back. She flattened Sugiyama out and unloaded with punches until the fight was stopped.

Winner: Takayo Hashi by TKO (Punches) at 4:20 of round three. She improves to 15-4-1 and becomes the first Deep Jewels Middleweight Champion.

 

48kg Deep Jewels Official MMA Rules – 2×5

Saori “Shooting Star” Ishioka vs Satomi “Sarami” Takano

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Ryogaku Wada. Takano whipped Ishioka to the mat right away, but Ishioka quickly countered with an armbar from her back. Takano tried to powerbomb her way free, but she could not break Ishioka’s grip. Takano eventually freed herself from the hold and the fighters went for duelling heel hooks.

Ishioka postured up with punches in an effort to escape, but Takano refused to let go of her ankle. Takano switched to a kneebar and Ishioka countered with a heel hook of her own. She took top position in Takano’s half-guard and mounted Takano seconds later. She trapped Takano’s arm and rained down punches. With mere seconds to go, Ishioka locked on an armbar and referee Wada stopped the fight.

Winner: Saori Ishioka by Technical Submission (Armbar) at 4:44 of round one. She improves to 13-7-0.

 

48kg Deep Jewels Kickboxing Rules – 3×3

Seo Hee Ham vs Yuuki Kira

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Ryogaku Wada. Ham scored with a nice left cross right away and Kira answered back with a one-two and a body kick. Ham ducked under her punches and landed crisp counters, but Kira scored with more kicks to the body. A flurry of punches landed for Ham and Kira retreated to the ropes. Ham kept the pressure on with more punches and she mixed in kicks and knees. She landed a front kick to the midsection and the round ended with both women throwing punches.

Round 2:
The second round began with an exchange of body kicks and Ham remained aggressive with her punches. Kira briefly switched her stance to combat Ham’s left hands, but Ham snuck in another three-punch combo and followed with two head kicks. Kira connected with a combination of her own, but Ham snapped her head back with quick punches just before the end of the action-packed round.

Round 3:
Hard punches scored for both women right away in round three and they followed with body kicks. Ham got the better of the exchanges with precision punches and she mixed things up well with knees and front kicks. Kira closed the distance and tried to land knees of her own late in the round, but they had little effect and Ham kept her at bay with more front kicks until the end of the fight.

Judges Hidenobu Koike, Kenichi Serizawa and Masato Fukuda all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Ham.

Winner: Seo Hee Ham by Unanimous Decision after three rounds.

 

48kg Deep Jewels Official MMA Rules – 2×5

“V.V” Mei Yamaguchi vs Yukiko Seki

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. The fighters battled in the clinch early in round one and Yamaguchi landed short knees and punches to the body. She whipped Seki to the ground and landed punches as Seki scrambled back to her feet. Yamaguchi jumped on Seki’s back and used punches to try to set up a rear-naked choke. She locked on the choke and dragged Seki to the ground. Seki refused to tap out and referee intervened at 3:17 to save her just as she began to lose consciousness.

Winner: Mei Yamaguchi by Technical Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 3:17 of round one. She improves to 12-7-1.

 

51kg Deep Jewels Official MMA Rules – 2×5

Tomo Maesawa vs Brittany Ann “Briko” Decker

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Ryogaku Wada. Maesawa shot in for an early takedown and Decker sprawled against the ropes. Maesawa punched to the body until the fighters were separated. She attempted another takedown and held Decker in the corner. Decker stuffed the takedown and referee Wada called for another break. Maesawa closed in and used an impressive judo throw to get Decker down to the ground. From side control, she landed some decent ground and pound and worked for a kimura. Decker stood and Maesawa landed a one-two. Decker took her back and dragged her down late in the round.

Round 2:
Decker pressed the action with punches in the second round and Maesawa shot in for a takedown. The fighters fell through the ropes and the fight was restarted on the feet. Maesawa took Decker down, but Decker tied her up from the bottom and referee Wada called for a standup. Maesawa caught a kick and looked for a takedown in the corner. She kneed Decker’s thigh, but Decker reversed a takedown into back control. Maesawa turned into Decker’s guard and dropped punches until the bell.

Judges Masato Fukuda, Kenichi Serizawa and Hidenobu Koike all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Maesawa.

Winner: Tomo Maesawa by Unanimous Decision after two rounds. She improves to 3-3-0.

 

52kg Deep Jewels Official MMA Rules – 2×5

Ayaka Miura vs Ella “Power” Wu

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Masato Fukuda. Wu landed a hard combination right away, but Miura quickly clinched and took her down. She moved to side control seconds later and locked on a tight arm-triangle choke. Wu refused to submit and was soon rendered unconscious. The referee did not intervene to stop the fight right away, but eventually dove in at 1:25 to rescue Wu, who stayed down on the mat for a moment afterward.

Winner: Ayaka Miura by Technical Submission (Arm-Triangle Choke) at 1:25 of round one. She improves to 1-0-0.

 

48kg Deep Jewels Official MMA Rules – 2×5

Naomi Taniyama vs Yuko Kawabata

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Kenichi Serizawa. The fighters traded punches to open the fight and both landed some hard right hands. Kawabata dropped levels for a takedown, but Taniyama wound up on top. A scramble ensued and the fight returned to the feet. Kawabata kicked at Taniyama’s lead leg and both women landed more right hooks. Taniyama fired off a combination and Kawabata backed away. A big exchange of punches followed and Taniyama reversed a takedown. Referee Serizawa called for a quick standup and Taniyama took Kawabata down into mount before the bell.

Round 2:
Kawabata backed Taniyama up to the ropes in round two and trapped her in a front headlock. She landed knees, but Taniyama created space and unloaded with a combination. More strikes were exchanged in close and Taniyama tripped Kawabata in the corner. She tried to posture up in Kawabata’s half-guard, but Kawabata held on. A stalemate ensued and the fighters were stood up. On the feet, both women threw wild punches and Kawabata clinched once more. She got Taniyama down just before time expired.

Judges Ryogaku Wada, Hidenobu Koike and Masato Fukuda all score the fight for the winner by Unanimous Decision, Taniyama.

Winner: Naomi Taniyama by Unanimous Decision after two rounds. She improves to 1-2-0.

 

50kg Deep Jewels Grappling Rules – 2×4

Miyoko Kusaka vs Sayuri Yamaguchi

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Hidenobu Koike. Kusaka clinched and held Yamaguchi against the ropes in the opening round. Neither woman could secure a takedown until Yamaguchi finally tripped Kusaka to the mat. Kusaka tried to explode up to her feet, but Yamaguchi powered her back down. Kusaka locked on an armbar from her back and rolled through. Yamaguchi initially held on, but referee Koike intervened for the stoppage as soon as her grip was broken at 2:30.

Winner: Miyoko Kusaka by Technical Submission (Armbar) at 2:30 of round one.

 

56kg Deep Jewels Newcomer MMA Rules – 2×5

Shiori Hori vs Maya Dobashi

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Hidenobu Koike. Dobashi immediately rushed forward and clinched with Hori, who countered with knees. Dobashi got her down into half-guard and threw short punches to the body. She moved to side control and looked to isolate Hori’s arms in a top-side crucifix. Dobashi kept Hori pinned down and tried to transition to back control, but Hori regained full guard. The fight returned to the feet and Hori wobbled Dobashi with a combination. She reversed a takedown and mounted Dobashi, then went belly-down with an armbar. Dobashi did not tap, but the referee called the fight at 4:43.

Winner: Shiori Hori by Technical Submission (Armbar) at 4:43 of round one. She improves to 1-1-0.
