Scott Smith To Face Robbie Lawler Again

EliteXC's Return To CBS Announced

by Robert Sargent

During the EliteXC broadcast Saturday night, it was announced that EliteXC will be returning to CBS for "Saturday Night Fights" on July 26th, featuring a Middleweight Championship rematch between Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith.

The event is not expected to feature EliteXC's major star, Kimbo Slice, but a number of significant fights are rumoured to be in place for the important card.

While there will be no Kimbo Slice on the card, it has been reported that EliteXC may crown its first Heavyweight Champion, as Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva is expected to clash with Brett "The Grim" Rogers or another top EliteXC heavyweight.

Gina "Conviction" Carano is not expected to be a part of the July 26th event, but a female bout featuring "The Queen of Spades" Shayna Baszler may take place on the card. Whether it is part of the televised portion or the undercard remains to be seen.

The event will be headlined by an EliteXC Middleweight Championship rematch between champion "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler and challenger Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith, after their first bout, on EliteXC's debut on CBS, ended controversially after an accidental poke to the eye of Smith.

Smith has stated that he is even more confident coming into the rematch than he was for the first fight, saying that he knows what he needs to work on and has identified areas of weakness in Lawler's game.

The event promises to be action-packed. Hopefully, for the sake of EliteXC, controversial outcomes are a thing of the past.
