Cody “Spartan” Stamann vs Tom “Fire Kid” Duquesnoy
Round 1:
Stamann punched his way into an early takedown and got Duquesnoy down, then followed with a knee to the chest on the way up. Both men landed hard kicks to the body and Stamann followed with a one-two. Duquesnoy stunned him with a standing elbow and a combination, but Stamann recovered quickly and he took Duquesnoy down. Duquesnoy scrambled up and time was called after Stamann was poked in the eye. Action resumed and both men landed looping hooks. Duquesnoy kicked to the body late in the competitive round. 10-9 Duquesnoy by a slim margin.
Round 2:
Duquesnoy hurt Stamann with a body kick and a combination in round two. Stamann circled away and responded with jabs and an overhand right. A right hook from Duquesnoy sent Stamann backpedalling, but he regained his footing and scored a takedown. Duquesnoy attempted a triangle choke from the bottom and scrambled up to his feet, but Stamann landed a knee and a right hand along the way. Another takedown followed from Stamann and he passed to Duquesnoy’s half-guard. The round ended with Stamann landing punches from the top. 10-9 Stamann.
Round 3:
Duquesnoy struck first with a head kick in the final round and Stamann answered with a right cross. He landed a head kick of his own and pressured Duquesnoy with a flurry and another high kick. Duquesnoy connected with an uppercut and Stamann answered right back with punches and a knee to the body. He continued to mix up his strikes with punch-kick combos as Duquesnoy circled against the fence. Stamann missed with a spinning attack and wound up on the bottom just before time expired. 10-9 Stamann.
Winner: Cody Stamann by Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 16-1-0.
“Groovy” Lando Vannata vs Bobby “King” Green
Round 1:
Vannata scored with an early punch-kick combo and a follow-up leg kick that knocked Green off-balance. Green clinched and landed short punches until Vannata broke free with an elbow. He stunned Green with a head and dropped him with right hooks to the temple. Green turtled on the ground as Vannata fired off right hands. Green got to his knees and Vannata landed an illegal knee to the head. Time was called and Vannata was docked one point, but Green was cleared to continue and the fight resumed.
Green immdiately tried for a takedown and Vannata trapped him in a tight guillotine choke. Green held on and eventually escaped. He landed short punches in a clinch until Vannata broke free. Vannata landed kicks to the lower and upper body of Green, who responded with kicks of his own. Vannata took him down and finished the round on top in S-mount. 9-9.
Round 2:
Green bloodied Vannata’s nose with stiff jabs and right hands in the second round. Vannata briefly took him down, but Green scrambled up to his feet. He caught a kick from Vannata and pushed him to the mat, but Vannata swept into top position and took Green’s back as the fighters returned to their feet. Vannata hurt Green with a right hook and he kept the pressure on with punches to the head and body in the final minute. 10-9 Vannata.
Round 3:
Vannata opened round three with body kicks and punching combinations that caused Green’s nose to begin to bleed. Green fired off a flurry and Vannata immediately countered with a head kick and a hard right hook. Green connected with straight right hands and Vannata’s face once again became covered in blood. Both men landed big shots and Vannata grazed with a head kick. He secured a brief takedown in the final minute, but Green stood and the fighters traded punches. Green badly rocked Vannata with a huge flurry late in the round, but time expired. 10-9 Green, barely.
Result: Split Draw (29-27 [Vannata], 29-27 [Green], 28-28) after three rounds. Lannata moves to 9-2-1, while Green is now 23-8-1.
Poliana Botelho vs Pearl Gonzalez
Round 1:
Long jabs were exchanged right away and Gonzalez scored with three powerful leg kicks that led to a clinch against the fence. She continued to target Botelho’s lead leg with knees and Botelho fought off takedown attempts with elbows to the temple. The fighters were separated after a stalemate, but Gonzalez quickly clinched again. Botelho reversed position against the fence and threw elbows over the top. Knees were exchanged and Gonzalez worked for a takedown, but Botelho countered again with more elbows until the bell. Close round. 10-9 Botelho.
Round 2:
Gonzalez initiated a clinch against the cage in round two and ate more elbows to the temple for her efforts. She could not get Botelho down and Botelho remained effective with elbows and counter knees. The fighters were eventually separated and both women landed kicks. Botelho focused her efforts on Gonzalez’s lead leg until Gonzalez rushed forward and clinched before time expired. 10-9 Botelho.
Round 3:
Gonzalez caught a kick early in the final round and Botelho stunned her with two hard right hands. Gonzalez recovered and tried unsuccessfully for a takedown. Botelho continued to fend her off with elbows and the fighters were separated after exchanging knees to the body. Gonzalez clinched right away and the crowd booed. Botelho landed a series of elbows and referee Jason Herzog separated the fighters once again. Botelho scored with a spinning back kick and a combination, then reversed a takedown and threw Gonzalez to the mat at the bell. 10-9 Botelho.
Winner: Poliana Botelho by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. She improves to 6-1-0.
Matt “Danger” Schnell vs Marco “Psycho” Beltran
Round 1:
Beltran countered Schnell’s leg kicks with crisp right hands in the opening two minutes. Schnell continued to throw kicks and he followed with a nice combination. Beltran scored with a front kick to the face and Schnell immediately unloaded with a lengthy flurry that backed Beltran up against the cage. Beltran recovered and he landed leg kicks, but Schnell cracked him with a hard one-two and tried for a takedown late in the round. 10-9 Schnell.
Round 2:
The second round began with an exchange of chopping leg kicks. Schnell put together a punch-kick combo and followed with three quick hooks. Beltran connected with a head kick and leapt in with a flying knee attempt, but Schnell continued to outbox him. He landed more one-twos as the round progressed and Beltran responded with a right hand. 10-9 Schnell.
Round 3:
The fighters clinched briefly in round three and Schnell landed a hook that caused Beltran’s right eye to swell shut. More punches landed for Schnell and Beltran replied with two head kicks. The pace slowed in the final three minutes and both men landed occasional kicks and punches. Beltran attempted a takedown shortly before the end of the fight and Schnell countered with a guillotine choke. Close final round. 10-9 Schnell.
Winner: Matt Schnell by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 10-4-0.
