Scott MacDonald vs Travis “The Howitzer” Halmrast

Round 1:
The fighters opened up with an exchange of leg kicks and MacDonald scored with a combination to the body. The striking remained sparse as the fighters were cautious and circled. MacDonald briefly looked for a takedown and Halmrast landed a solid leg kick. MacDonald answered back with a combination that was punctuated by a powerful overhand right. Halmrast collapsed to the mat, but recovered. MacDonald, unable to strike to the face on the ground due to the amateur rules, settled for punches to the body until the bell. 10-9 MacDonald.

Round 2:

Halmrast followed with more punches and MacDonald fired back with a combination of his own. Time was called after a knee to the face by Halmrast – illegal under amateur rules – but action resumed and MacDonald scored with big punches. He took Halmrast down and fought off a guillotine choke. From side control, MacDonald attempted a Kimura on Halmrath’s left arm. Halmrath scrambled to his feet and punches were exchanged late in the round. 10-9 MacDonald.

Round 3:
MacDonald attempted a pair of sloppy takedowns in the final round, but met with no success. Halmrath landed knees in return, but MacDonald finally got him down. MacDonald used an arm-triangle choke attempt to move to mount, then attempted another choke. Halmrast escaped and regained full guard. MacDonald threw short punches to the body until the bell. 10-9 MacDonald.
