Mike Brown vs Anthony “Cheesesteak” Morrison

Round 1:
Morrison opened the fight with kicks to the legs and upper body and he kept Brown at a distance with quick counterpunches. Brown worked his way into a clinch and took Morrison down, then moved straight to a crucifix. Brown landed punches from the top, but Morrison survived. Brown moved to mount, then took Morrison’s back and secured a rear naked choke. Morrison held on momentarily, but quickly tapped out. Dominant win for the former champion.

Winner: Mike Brown by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 1:54 of round one. He improves to 23-5-0.

 

Deividas Taurosevicius vs Mackens “Mack da Menace” Semerzier

Round 1:
Taurosevicius rushed forward with a lunging punch and clinched against the cage. He took Semerzier down, then stood over him and kicked at his legs. Semerzier connected with upkicks, but Taurosevicius passed to side-control. Taurosevicius landed elbows, but Semerzier regained guard and stood up.

Both fighters landed looping hooks and Taurosevicius connected with kicks to the leg and body. He backed Semerzier up with a left hook and tried for a takedown. The first attempt was unsuccessful, but Taurosevicius slammed Semerzier down seconds later. The fighters were stood up and Taurosevicius clinched again before the bell. 10-9 Taurosevicius.

Round 2:
Unorthodox kicks from both fighters opened the second round and Semerzier scored with a quick flurry. A stiff leg kick landed for Taurosevicius and Semerzier answered with a head kick. Semerzier clinched and Taurosevicius countered with a takedown. Semerzier sprung back to his feet, but Taurosevicius used another impressive throw to take him down. Semerzier stood and was slammed down, but he tried for a triangle choke off of his back.

Taurosevicius stood out of the choke and kicked at Semerzier’s legs, then punched from Semerzier’s guard. Taurosevicius continued to punish Semerzier with punches and elbows from the top and Semerzier could not scramble out. Taurosevicius tried to move to side-control, but settled for punches from a standing position. Semerzier attempted a kneebar, but Taurosevicius used the opportunity to land more punches. He moved to side-control and threw elbows late in the round. 10-9 Taurosevicius.

Round 3:
Leg kicks were exchanged early in the final round and the fighters began to throw for the fences with punches. Taurosevicius caught a head kick and backed Semerzier up, but Semerzier tried to jump into a flying triangle. The fight returned to the feet and both landed knees in a clinch. Taurosevicius shot in for a sloppy takedown and had to fight off a Brabo Choke and a rolling Kimura. The fighters tried for duelling heel hooks and Semerzier stood up.

Semerzier punched from a standing position and Taurosevicius answered with upkicks. Semerzier cut Taurosevicius on the forehead and teed off with hammerfists, but Taurosevicius remained calm. Semerzier dove into half-guard and Taurosevicius scrambled. Semerzier secured a very tight guillotine choke late in the round, but Taurosevicius managed to pull his head free and struck from the top. 10-9 Semerzier.

Winner: Deividas Taurosevicius by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. He improves to 12-3-0.

 

Mark “The Machine” Hominick vs Bryan “Kid” Caraway

Round 1:
After a brief exchange of strikes, Caraway took Hominick down. He worked from the top and tried to pass Hominick’s guard, but Hominick did well to keep Caraway in place. Caraway stood up and landed a pair of solid punches, then dove back into Hominick’s guard. He stood again and rained down punches, but Hominick answered with upkicks.

A scramble ensued and Caraway wound up in Hominick’s guard. Hominick used a Kimura to transition into an extremely quick and impressive triangle choke. He added an armbar in as well and Caraway quickly submitted. Excellent win for Hominick.

Winner: Mark Hominick by Submission (Triangle Armbar) at 3:48 of round one. He improves to 17-8-0.

 

Undercard Fights:

Charlie Valencia defeated Akitoshi “Ironman” Tamura by Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) after three rounds. He improves to 12-5-0 with the win.

Wagnney Fabiano defeated Clint Godfrey by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 13-2-0 with the win.

Eddie Wineland defeated George Roop by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 16-6-1 with the win.

Will Campuzano defeated Coty “The Ox” Wheeler by Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) after three rounds. He improves to 7-1-0 with the win.

 

With a star-studded main card that yielded exciting fights from beginning to end, WEC 46 was a great start to the year for World Extreme Cagefighting and may only be a taste of things to come from the promotion in 2010.
