Invicta Fighting Championships 14 Live Play-By-Play & ResultsInvicta Fighting Championships showcased its 14th all-female fight card tonight at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. Invicta FC 14 was headlined by a non-title bantamweight bout between reigning champion Tonya “Triple Threat” Evinger and contender Pannie “Banzai” Kianzad.

In tonight’s co-main event, former Invicta FC Strawweight Champion Katja “Killer Bunny” Kankaanpää took on DeAnna “The Argentine Assassin” Bennett. Veteran Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi faced Mariana Morais. MMARising.com has live play-by-play for the Invicta FC 14 card.

 

Non-Title Bout

Tonya “Triple Threat” Evinger vs Pannie “Banzai” Kianzad

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is John McCarthy. Evinger countered Kianzad’s early aggression by clinching against the cage. She landed knees to the face and took Kianzad down. Kianzad’s mouthpiece came out as Evinger blasted her with hammerfists from side control. She bloodied Kianzad’s nose and worked for a rear-naked choke. Kianzad defended and Evinger used punches to set up an armbar. 10-9 Evinger.

Round 2:
Evinger dropped Kianzad with a right hand right away in the second round. Kianzad immediately recovered and kicked from her back as Evinger stood over her. Kianzad’s nose began to bleed more heavily and Evinger nearly mounted her. She landed punches from the top and attempted an arm-triangle choke. Kianzad escaped, but Evinger blasted her with punches until the bout was stopped.

Winner: Tonya Evinger by TKO (Punches) at 3:34 of round two. She improves to 18-5-0.

 

DeAnna “The Argentine Assassin” Bennett vs Katja “Killer Bunny” Kankaanpää

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Mike England. Kankaanpää threw a three-punch flurry in the opening seconds and Bennett kicked to the body. Both women landed left-right combos and Kankaanpää punched her way into a clinch. Bennett circled out and Kankaanpää set up a two-punch combination with a head kick. She landed a hard flurry that backed Bennett up, but Bennett countered by pulling half-guard with an arm-in guillotine choke. The fight returned to the feet and Kankaanpää attempted a rolling kimura before the bell. 10-9 Kankaanpää.

Round 2:
The second round began with an exchange of punches and Bennett shot in for a takedown. Kankaanpää stuffed it and threw a head kick. She took Bennett down and Bennett countered with another arm-in guillotine. Kankaanpää escaped and Bennett stood up. She slammed Kankaanpää down, but Kankaanpää swept and fought off an omoplata attempt. A scramble followed and Kankaanpää reversed a takedown. The fighters stood and Bennett pulled guard with a guillotine choke. 10-9 Bennett.

Round 3:
Kankaanpää landed right hooks in round three and took Bennett down. Bennett stood up and Kankaanpää dragged her right back down. She locked on an arm-triangle choke from side control and Bennett tried to roll to escape. Kankaanpää switched to a rear-naked choke and then returned to Bennett’s guard. She passed to half-guard and then to a top-side crucifix. Bennett tried to stand and Kankaanpää took her back. She transitioned to another arm-triangle choke, but Bennett survived until the bell. 10-9 Kankaanpää.

Judge Henry Gueary: 29-28 Bennett. Judge Fernando Marques: 29-28 Bennett. Judge Brett Miller: 29-28 Bennett.

Winner: DeAnna Bennett by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 8-0-0.

 

Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi vs Mariana Morais

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is John McCarthy. Morais kicked at Modafferi’s lead leg and went high with a head kick early on, but Modafferi clinched and took her down into mount. She trapped Morais in a top-side crucifix and landed elbows and punches. Modafferi kept Morais pinned down throughout the round and continued to throw short strikes until Morais swept in the final 30 seconds. 10-9 Modafferi.

Round 2:
Morais landed lead left hooks in the second round and Modafferi answered with knees to the body in a clinch. Morais kicked at Modafferi’s leg and Modafferi fired back with a combination. Morais stuffed a takedown, but Modafferi was persistent and she threw Morais down to the canvas. From S-mount, Modafferi landed a series of unanswered punches. She postured up in full mount and rained down more punches. Modafferi switched to elbows and Morais gave up her back. Modafferi mounted her again and landed numerous punches and elbows until the bell. 10-8 Modafferi.

Round 3:
Modafferi shot in for a single-leg takedown in the final round, but Morais countered with a tight guillotine choke that had the veteran in all sorts of trouble. Modafferi stayed calm and eventually managed to escape. She used short strikes from the top to set up a move to side control. Modafferi mounted Morais and dropped elbows and punches. Morais covered up and Modafferi landed a final flurry of punches that forced referee John McCarthy to stop the fight.

Winner: Roxanne Modafferi by TKO (Punches) at 4:40 of round three. She improves to 18-12-0.

 

Andrea “KGB” Lee vs Rachael Ostovich

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is John McCarthy. The fighters traded hooks early in the fight and Lee landed three short uppercuts in a brief clinch. She lunged in with jab-hook combos and Ostovich circled on the outside. She landed a grazing head kick, but Lee remained the aggressor. Two lead left hooks and a body kick scored for Lee, who kept Ostovich at bay with long strikes.

Lee knocked Ostovich down and hurt her with an axe kick to the body. A wounded Ostovich stood and Lee dropped her with punches. She jumped on Ostovich’s back and tried for a rear-naked choke, but Ostovich escaped to her feet. She landed a spinning backfist out of nowhere, but Lee was unfazed and she dropped Ostovich with a kick to the body. Lee locked on another rear-naked choke, but time expired. 10-9 Lee. Close to a 10-8.

Round 2:
A nice spinning backfist landed for Ostovich in the second round, but Lee remained composed and she landed left hooks in return. Ostovich put together kick-punch combos, but Lee flurried to the body and head. She kicked at Ostovich’s lead leg and dropped her with a step-in jab. Ostovich stood and Lee suplexed her back down. She threw knees to the thighs and two more to the body after Ostovich returned to her feet. Lee stunned Ostovich with a head kick and threw her back down. She flattened Ostovich out and punched until the bell. 10-9 Lee. Could be another 10-8.

Round 3:
Lee opened round three with more body shots, but Ostovich caught a head kick and took her down. Lee returned to her feet and Ostovich bled from a cut along her hairline. Lee punished her with knees to the body and head, but Ostovich persevered and secured a takedown into S-mount. She tried for an armbar, but lost the position. Lee targeted Ostovich’s cut with punches from the top.

Ostovich postured for an armbar from the bottom, but Lee easily escaped and Ostovich gave up her back. Lee flattened her out and sunk in both hooks. She used hammerfists to set up rear-naked choke attempts, but Ostovich defended each time. Lee continued to work for chokes throughout the final minute. She switched to an armbar and Ostovich verbally submitted with two seconds left in the fight.

Winner: Andrea Lee by Submission (Armbar) at 4:58 of round three. She improves to 3-1-0.

 

Cindy “Battlecat” Dandois vs Megan Anderson

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is John McCarthy. Anderson landed a right hand early in the fight, but Dandois clinched and scored a trip takedown into side control. She mounted Anderson and landed short punches and elbows. Anderson scrambled and Dandois attempted an armbar from the bottom. Anderson escaped, but Dandois quickly transitioned to a triangle choke. She rolled into a mounted triangle and dropped a series of punches until Anderson kicked off of the cage and escaped out the back. The fighters stood and Anderson landed three right hands. 10-9 Dandois.

Round 2:
Dandois immediately clinched in round two and threw Anderson to the mat. Anderson kicked her off and stood up. She cracked Dandois with a right hand to the jaw and stuffed a takedown, but Dandois resorted to pulling guard. She locked on another triangle choke and Anderson punched to the body. She held out for some time before eventually tapping out.

Winner: Cindy Dandois by Submission (Triangle Choke) at 2:41 of round two. She improves to 6-2-0.

 

Sharon “The Dream Catcher” Jacobson vs Jamie Moyle

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Mike England. Jacobson pressed forward with punches early on and Moyle countered nicely with short hooks that led to a clinch against the cage. Moyle broke free with a powerful right hand, but Jacobson clinched again soon after. The fighters traded knees and Moyle knocked Jacobson off-balance with a counter kick.

Right-left combos landed repeatedly for Moyle and she followed with knees in a clinch. Jacobson flurried over the top and Moyle countered with an elbow and a knee. Another combination scored for Jacobson, as well as an elbow soon after. Moyle landed more knees before the bell and she stuffed a takedown attempt. Close opening round. 10-9 Moyle.

Round 2:
Moyle circled on the outside and struck from a distance in the second round until Jacobson closed in and took her down. Moyle initiated a scramble and kicked her off. The fighters stood and Jacobson landed a spinning elbow, but Moyle rocked her with a right hand and backed her up with more punches. Jacobson recovered and landed a knee in the clinch, then flurried with punches that forced Moyle to backpedal. Jacobson pinned her against the fence and tripped her very briefly, but Moyle stood back up and landed punches along the way. Another close round. 10-9 Moyle by a slim margin.

Round 3:
Moyle knocked Jacobson off-balance with a front kick to the body in the final round, but Jacobson scored a slam takedown seconds later. Moyle attempted an armbar from the bottom and Jacobson countered by dropping punches from a standing position. Moyle scrambled up and Jacobson landed a nice elbow in close. She slammed Moyle down again and landed more hard right hands. Moyle battled back to her feet and Jacobson punched to the body. Both women landed knees and Jacobson kept Moyle pinned against the fence. 10-9 Jacobson.

Jinh Yu Frey vs “Lightning” Liz McCarthy

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Mike England. Frey scored with one-two combinations in the opening minute and she mixed in kicks to the body. She took McCarthy down into side control, but McCarthy scrambled and returned to her feet. Frey knocked her down with a counter kick to the midsection. McCarthy stood and both women scored with straight punches. An overhand left landed for Frey and she backed McCarthy up with a flurry late in the round. 10-9 Frey.

Round 2:
McCarthy lunged in with a one-two in the second round and Frey replied with a right hook over the top. She took McCarthy down, but McCarthy used an armbar attempt to get back to her feet. The fighters traded straight punches and McCarthy landed a kick to the upper body. Frey rushed in with a combination, but McCarthy landed a nice one-two in return. She stuffed a takedown and Frey finished the round with two looping hooks. 10-9 Frey.

Round 3:
McCarthy avoided takedown attempts and countered Frey’s kicks and punches with straight right hands. She rushed forward with a lengthy combination and tried for a takedown. Frey broke free by landing a left hook over the top. McCarthy remained the aggressor and she continued to press the action with punches and body kicks. A solid left cross landed for Frey, but McCarthy snapped her head back with a right hook. She fought off a Frey takedown attempt, but Frey snuck in a hard left hand. 10-9 McCarthy.

Winner: Jinh Yu Frey by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) after three rounds. She improves to 4-1-0.

 

J.J. Aldrich vs “Rollie” Rosa Acevedo

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Mike England. Aldrich countered early kicks from Acevedo with a nice left cross. She tagged Acevedo with a hard one-two and followed with a knee. Acevedo clinched, but Aldrich scored with more knees. She badly hurt Acevedo with a knee to the body and knocked her unconscious with two more knees to the face.

Winner: J.J. Aldrich by KO (Knees) at 2:24 of round one. She improves to 2-1-0.

 

Aspen Ladd vs Amanda Bobby “ABC” Cooper

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is John McCarthy. The fighters battled in a clinch against the cage early on and Cooper landed a short elbow. Ladd countered with knees, but Cooper answered back with two knees of her own and another elbow. She attempted a takedown, but Ladd reversed on the way down and worked from the top in Cooper’s half-guard. Cooper nearly secured an ankle pick to sweep, but Ladd kept her pinned down. Cooper attacked with an armbar from the bottom, but Ladd punched her way free. Cooper kicked her off before the bell. Very close round. 10-9 Ladd, barely.

Round 2:
Cooper stunned Ladd with an early jab in round two, but Ladd dropped levels and secured a takedown into half-guard. She attempted a keylock and had Cooper in some trouble, but Cooper managed to escape. Ladd took her back and flattened her out. She worked to set up a rear-naked choke, but Cooper defended well. She rolled over and Ladd immediately dropped hard elbows from mount that opened a gash on Cooper’s forehead. Ladd spun into an armbar and wrenched back on Cooper’s arm for the tapout win.

Winner: Aspen Ladd by Submission (Armbar) at 4:42 of round two. She improves to 2-0-0.

 

Felicia “Phenom” Spencer vs Rachel Wiley

Round 1:
Referee for this bout is Mike England. Spencer pressed forward with knees and elbows early on and she backed Wiley up against the cage. She tripped Wiley to the mat and dropped punches and elbows that caused Wiley’s forehead to swell up. Spencer moved to side control and then to a top-side crucifix. She unloaded with elbows and left hands from the top until the fight was mercifully stopped.

Winner: Felicia Spencer by TKO (Elbows & Punches) at 3:32 of round one. She improves to 1-0-0.
