Weekend Recap: Yana Kunitskaya Victorious At Verdict FC 1Yana “Foxy” Kunitskaya earned her fourth straight knockout win Saturday night at Verdict Fighting Championship 1 in Moscow, Russia. Kunitskaya made short work of the debuting Ekaterina Saraykina in a featured women’s matchup that ended just past the one-minute mark of the opening round.

Kunitskaya will make a quick return to action following her victory over Saraykina. She is set to face the much larger Anna Melikhova, a Muay Thai practitioner, in an open-weight bout at Lion’s Fights 1: “The Beginning” on March 3rd. Kunitskaya could give up as much as 50 pounds at fight time.

Kunitskaya (6-1-0) countered an early flurry from Saraykina (0-1-0) with a takedown into side control. She landed punches and hammerfists from the top as Saraykina rolled to her side, but some of the strikes landed to the back of Saraykina’s head. The referee stood the fighters up as a result of the foul and Kunitskaya caught a body kick. She took Saraykina down and moved to mount, then unloaded with big punches until the bout was stopped.

Winner: Yana Kunitskaya by TKO (Punches) at 1:05 of round one. She improves to 6-1-0.

A planned bout between unbeaten prospects Julianna “The Venezuelan Vixen” Peña (3-0-0) and Lauren “All-In” Taylor (4-0-0) has been scrapped from the upcoming Fitetime Entertainment: “Arctic Combat 12” card on February 18th in Fairbanks, Alaska. Peña stated this weekend that she had been struck by a drunk driver while walking on Friday evening and is out of the bout with Taylor as a result of injuries sustained. Taylor may remain on the card against a replacement opponent.
