Kaitlin Young Stops Anna Barone At Downtown Showdown 2Minnesota’s Kaitlin Young made a successful return to her home state with a victory tonight at Sterling Entertainment Group and Driller Promotions’ co-promoted “Downtown Showdown 2” event in Minneapolis. Young stopped Canadian Anna “Smiles” Barone via doctor stoppage after the second round.

Young, who had a number of planned bouts fall apart in 2011, chose not to withdraw from the fight with Barone despite Barone’s failure to make weight. She used a series of kicks to the lead leg and body to wear down Barone and bloodied her with jabs that led the cageside doctor to stop the bout.

Young (7-5-0) opened the first round with knees and kicks that were targeted at Barone’s midsection. Barone (2-3-0), who weighed in well above the original mark of 140 pounds for the fight, struggled to mount any offence in return but managed to connect with a handful of punches. Young opened a cut on Barone’s face in round one, but the bout was allowed to continue into the second stanza.

It was more of the same after the bell sounded to begin round two, and Young turned Barone’s face into a bloody mess with a series of jabs that kept her opponent on the defensive. Barone switched tactics and tried for takedowns, but Young stayed up and began to punish her lead leg with kicks. As Barone struggled to stay on her feet, Young kept the pressure on until the end of the round.

The cageside doctor entered to check on Barone and deemed her unfit to continue. The bout was then stopped, giving Young a well-earned victory after fighting just once in the second half of 2011 due to a series of fight cancellations. Young has won three of her past four fights, with two of those victories coming via a form of knockout.

Winner: Kaitlin Young by TKO (Doctor Stoppage) at 5:00 of round two. She improves to 7-5-0.
