Mika Nagano, Rina Tomita Confirmed For Brace For War 17 CardJewels stars Mika “Future Princess” Nagano and Rina Tomita will compete in separate bouts at Brace For War 17: “Brace Girls” on October 27th in Southport, Queensland, Australia. Nagano faces Alexandra Chambers in the night’s main event, while Tomita battles Claire Fryer in the co-feature.

Both Japanese fighters were initially added to the all-female card earlier this summer, but Nagano first had to get past newcomer Tomo Maesawa at Jewels: “21st Ring” this past month. Tomita is 1-1 since her return to action after undergoing successful surgery for cervical cancer in March 2011.

Nagano (10-7-0) has been one of the most popular fighters in Jewels since the promotion’s inception in 2008, but untimely losses have kept her out of the title picture. The grappling specialist has secured eight of her ten wins by submission and is coming off of back-to-back victories this year. Australia’s Chambers (2-1-0) is a strong grappler in her own right and opened her MMA career with a pair of wins before travelling to Japan for her Jewels debut in March. She suffered her first defeat at the hands of top prospect Mizuki Inoue and looks for a measure of revenge when she faces Nagano later this month.

Tomita (3-6-0) has also encountered mixed success during her time in the Jewels promotion, but the AACC fighter has earned submission wins in two of her past three fights. Her lone loss since 2010 came in a closely contested bout with Emi Tomimatsu in December. Fryer (2-1-0) scored decision wins in each of her first two fights before taking a step up in competition to challenge Chambers in July 2010. The result was a TKO loss for Fryer and she will now make her return to action for the first time in well over two years.

The Nagano-Chambers and Tomita-Fryer bouts will headline the all-female Brace For War 17 card. The event features 13 professional bouts and takes place at the Southport RSL Club in Southport, Queensland, Australia.
