Carla Esparza To Face Sarah Schneider At Invicta FC 2Standout wrestler Carla Esparza and jiu-jitsu specialist Sarah “White Tiger” Schneider will meet in a strawweight bout at Invicta Fighting Championships 2 on July 28th in Kansas City, Kansas. MMARising.com confirmed plans for the fight this week. Both fighters are coming off of impressive victories.

Also added to the card today was a flyweight battle between Jocelyn “Lights Out” Lybarger and Canadian Cheryl Chan. The amateur titleholders join the pro ranks on the card. Lybarger captured the Tuff-N-Uff 125-pound title this past month. Chan holds three championships and has won four straight.

Esparza (6-2-0) is one of MMA’s top female wrestlers and she has enjoyed considerable success since transitioning to mixed martial arts competition in early 2010. Three stoppage wins earned Esparza a last-minute fight with pound-for-pound star Megumi Fujii at Bellator 24, and while Esparza was defeated by the legendary Japanese fighter, she put on a solid showing. The 24-year-old has won three of her four bouts since, with the loss coming via Split Decision to Jessica Aguilar. In December, Esparza made her XFC debut and earned a dominant Unanimous Decision victory over talented striker Felice Herrig in what was arguably her most impressive performance to date.

Schneider (6-5-0) began her career in the bantamweight division and made an instant impact with big wins over Kaitlin Young and Julie Kedzie. Following a TKO loss to former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman and a subsequent defeat to Adrienna Jenkins, Schneider opted to begin the drop all the way down to 115 pounds. She split a pair of catchweight bouts with Fujii and Ivana Coleman before debuting as a strawweight at the inaugural Invicta FC event in April. Schneider pulled guard and showcased her American jiu-jitsu skills by locking up a quick armbar that forced opponent Sally Krumdiack to hastily submit. Schneider now looks to make it two for two in the Invicta FC cage.

One half of the “Lybarger twins” duo, Jocelyn (4-2-0 amateur) has competed alongside sister Jillian in the amateur ranks since July 2010. She is the current holder of the Tuff-N-Uff women’s championship at 125 pounds – a title she claimed with a Split Decision victory in April – and has only lost to undefeated opponents Ashley Cummins and Stephanie Gonzalez. Chan (6-2-0 amateur) has spent much of her career competing in her native British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest, where she holds titles for All Martial Arts, AX Fighting Championships and North American Challenge. All six of Chan’s amateur wins have come by tapout and she has employed five different submission holds to dispatch of her foes.

Lybarger and Chan will make their professional debuts on the Invicta FC 2 card.

Invicta Fighting Championships 2 takes place on July 28th at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.
