Tara LaRosa vs Kelly Warren Announced For RFA 2 CardLong-time pound-for-pound standout Tara LaRosa at last has an opponent for Resurrection Fighting Alliance 2: “Yvel vs Alexander” on March 30th in Kearney, Nebraska. LaRosa is set to square off against former NAAFS title challenger Kelly Warren in a featured 125-pound bout on the card.

LaRosa steps back into the cage after a lengthy layoff dating back to a March 2011 submission victory over Carina Damm. The veteran has tasted defeat only once in her past 18 fights spanning close to nine years. Warren looks for an upset after suffering back-to-back defeats in NAAFS bouts.

LaRosa (20-2-0) reigned supreme atop the women’s bantamweight division for many years before opting to drop down to the 125-pound weight class in 2009. The move has paid off for LaRosa, who has since scored wins over some of the top female fighters in the division. Short of a razor-thin Split Decision loss to friend and rival Roxanne Modafferi in May 2010 rematch, LaRosa is otherwise unbeaten dating all the way back to 2003. The grappling specialist has submitted 11 opponents to date and holds a multitude of championship titles. She has struggled to find fights in recent years, however, and now faces a short-notice opponent after original foe Angela Magana was forced to withdraw due to injuries sustained in a car accident this past weekend.

Warren (3-2-0) brought an unblemished professional record into her November NAAFS title bout with Aisling “Ais The Bash” Daly, but succumbed to a second-round armbar that dashed her championship hopes. She returned to the promotion this past month to face one of its top stars, Jessica “Evil” Eye, but was outpointed on the feet throughout much of the fight en route to a Unanimous Decision defeat. Despite the two-fight losing skid, Warren fared well in her bout with Daly and managed to land some solid strikes against Eye. She may hold an advantage over the more experienced LaRosa in the striking exchanges, but will need to be wary of LaRosa’s formidable ground game.

Resurrection Fighting Alliance 2: “Yvel vs Alexander” takes place on March 30th at the Viaero Event Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Gilbert “The Hurricane” Yvel takes on fellow UFC veteran Houston “The Assassin” Alexander in the main event. In other women’s action, Elaina “Beef” Maxwell faces Ashley “Loca” Sanchez and Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke battles Marciea “The Black Widow” Allen in a title fight that will likely be the final amateur bout of Duke’s career.
