Vanessa Porto To Face Jennifer Maia In Pink Fight MMA 2 RematchBrazilian standouts Vanessa Porto and Jennifer Maia will face off for a second time in the main event of Pink Fight MMA 2 on February 25th in Rio de Janeiro. The rematch will be contested for the first Pink Fight women’s title at 132 pounds. Tatame reported details of the event on Wednesday.

Porto defeated Maia in the pair’s first meeting in October, though the result was not without some controversy. Referee Mario Yamasaki stopped the fight due to a Porto armbar in the second round, but Maia did not tap out and she now looks to avenge her lone career defeat later this month.

Porto (13-4-0) has long been regarded as one of Brazil’s premier female fighters and she has already battled some of MMA’s best female bantamweights. Following a December 2009 defeat against future Strikeforce contender Amanda “Lioness of the Ring” Nunes, Porto took time off to regroup and refocus. She returned to action one year later and has since won three straight fights, with all bouts ending inside the distance. In the first bout with Maia in October, it was Maia who had success on the feet early in both rounds, but Porto’s takedowns and ground and pound kept her in control of the fight until she secured the fight-ending armbar in the latter half of round two.

Maia (5-1-1), a product of the famed Chute Boxe camp, has not yet built up a résumé comparable to Porto’s, but she is seen as a future star in Brazilian MMA and has already developed a sizeable fan following. Maia remained unbeaten through her first five fights; a stretch that included four first-round stoppage wins and a Draw with Kalindra Carvalho Faria, who was victorious in the main event of Pink Fight MMA 1 this past month. Against Porto, Maia displayed impressive striking skills and was active when working off of her back, but became trapped in the armbar in round two and Yamasaki intervened on her behalf. She enters the rematch after a submission win on the inaugural Pink Fight MMA card.

Pink Fight MMA 2 takes place on February 25th at the Campos dos Goytacazes Exhibition Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bout between Porto and Maia will be contested for a new Pink Fight women’s championship at 60 kilograms (132 pounds).

  1. This is a rematch I am interested in seeing.

Both are very impressive athletes. Jennifer Maia is someone to keep an eye on, that’s for sure.
