Rosi Sexton vs Sheila Gaff Planned For Cage Warriors 43Cage Warriors Fighting Championship will crown a new 125-pound women’s champion at CWFC 43 on July 9th when top UK star Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton clashes with hard-hitting striker Sheila “The German Tank” Gaff. The targeted matchup will be contested over five, five-minute rounds.

MMARising.com learned of the bout from sources close to the negotiations earlier this month. Both fighters have signed bout agreements, but the fight requires final approval from Bellator Fighting Championships, where Sexton remains under contract. Sexton previously captured CWFC gold in 2005.

Sexton (12-2-0) has rebounded after her upset loss to Zoila Gurgel in Bellator last June and will bring a two-fight winning streak into the bout with Gaff. Both wins have come under the Cage Warriors banner, as Sexton became the first woman to stop Sally Krumdiack with strikes in November before edging Strikeforce veteran Roxanne Modafferi via Unanimous Decision on February 26th. The submission specialist should hold a decided advantage on the ground over Gaff, but will need to be wary of her opponent’s knockout power.

Gaff (9-4-1) put together six straight victories from 2008 until the finals of the Upcoming Glory women’s tournament on March 27th of last year. During that time, she became the first and only woman to defeat fellow German standout Alexandra Sanchez. Last May, Gaff looked to be well on her way to upsetting Cindy Dandois at an M-1 Selection event before an errant illegal knee resulted in Gaff’s disqualification. She is thus far undefeated in 2011, with an eight-second knockout of Hanna Sillen in February and an impressive first-round stoppage of Aisling Daly at CWFC 41 last month.

While Gaff has four submission wins to her credit, her strength and striking power will be her biggest assets against Sexton, who possesses one of the best ground games in the 125-pound women’s division. Sexton aims to reclaim her spot atop the Cage Warriors women’s ranks, but a victory for Gaff would certainly be her biggest to date.

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship 43 takes place on July 9th at the HMV Forum in Kentish Town, North London, England. The five-round title fight between Sexton and Gaff will determine the new Cage Warriors Women’s Super Flyweight Champion.
