A 120-pound catchweight bout is in the works between the number one pound-for-pound female fighter in the world, Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii, and Sarah “White Tiger” Schneider for Bellator 21 on June 10th. MMARising.com has learned that bout agreements have been distributed and the fight is expected to be formally announced this week.

Schneider, who competes at 135 pounds, will drop down considerably in weight to take on Fujii as the Japanese superstar prepares for the Bellator 115-pound women’s tournament later this year.

Fujii (19-0-0) was officially confirmed for the women’s tournament earlier this month and will face an interesting test in her pre-tournament bout with Schneider. No stranger to facing larger opponents, Fujii will give up a considerable amount of size and power to Schneider, but that has not hindered Fujii in the past. With an incredible 16 victories by submission and notable wins over the likes of Erica Montoya, Ana Michelle Tavares, Lisa Ward, Mika Nagano and Saori Ishioka, Fujii has reigned supreme over the lighter weight classes throughout her six-year career.

Schneider (4-4-0) opened her career with three straight victories including a big win over then-unbeaten Kaitlin Young. She has faced elite competition in each of her last five fights, but has managed just one win – a March 2009 submission of Julie Kedzie – during that time. Losses to the likes of standouts Tonya Evinger, Jennifer Tate, Sarah Kaufman and Adrienna Jenkins have derailed Schneider’s rise up the bantamweight ranks, but an upset victory over Fujii at 120 pounds would ensure that Schneider is not soon forgotten.

In addition to the planned Fujii-Schneider bout, a second Bellator women’s fight was made official earlier this week. Schneider’s sister-in-law, Tammie, will take on Lisa Ward in a 115-pound bout at Bellator 22 on June 17th. Bellator 22 had previously been set for June 10th, but the promotion has adjusted its event numbering due to an off-week “highlight show” next week.
