Shana Olsen Defeats Kaitlin YoungKeeping her undefeated record intact, Minnesota’s Shana Olsen shocked many in attendance by stopping former EliteXC contender Kaitlin Young with second-round strikes in their featured bout at Ironman MMA tonight at the Treasure Island Resort and Casino in Welch, Minnesota.

Olsen, who had missed weight for the fight and had to forfeit part of her fight purse to Young, rebounded after a shaky start to round one and executed a smart game plan of takedowns. She finished the fight with punches and elbows on the ground near the midway point of round two.

Olsen (2-0-0) was battered and bloodied early on by kicks and a barrage of punches from Young (4-3-0), who was competing for the first time since May of 2008 when she lost to Gina “Conviction” Carano in a nationally televised bout at EliteXC: “Primetime” on CBS.

However, Olsen remained calm and reversed the 2007 HOOKnSHOOT Women’s Grand Prix Champion against the cage, then scored with knees. Soon after, Olsen took the fight to the ground and landed punches and elbows from the top. Young attempted an armbar, but Olsen escaped and the round came to a close.

The second round saw Olsen once again take the fight to the mat, where she could avoid the dangerous striking power of Young. Olsen continued to rack up points with elbows from the top, then switched to punches as Young attempted to scramble free. A final series of strikes ended the fight, giving Olsen a huge victory in just her second career mixed martial arts bout.

Young, who may have been suffering from ring rust after the lengthy layoff, has dropped three fights in a row. She may return to action in late January, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Shana Olsen defeats Kaitlin Young by TKO (Punches & Elbows) at 1:52 of round two. She improves to 2-0-0 with the win.

  3. Good win for Olsen, could see her in strikeforce with a few more wins. Kind of sad to see Young lose 3 in a row, she seemed quite unbeatable after that grand prix she won.

  4. Great dominating fight by Olsen. Don’t be surprised to see her continue to dominate in the MMA world. This is just the beginning of her long elustrious career.
