Kim Couture Loses Pro Debut

Kim Couture Loses Pro Debut

by Robert Sargent

Making her professional mixed martial arts debut at Banner Promotions: Night Of Combat, Kim Couture, wife of UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture, was completely demolished by Kim Rose, en route to a highly lopsided Unanimous Decision loss.

In the main event of the evening, UFC veterans John "The Natural" Alessio and "The Secret Weapon" Pete Spratt engaged in a highly competitive back-and-forth battle.

Alessio struggled badly with takedown attempts in the opening round, unable to get Spratt to the ground. Spratt responded with vicious leg kicks that kept the Canadian at bay. Spratt even succeeded in taking Alessio down and locked on an armbar, but Alessio managed to escape.

In the middle of round two, Spratt's nemesis once again haunted him, as he fell victim to yet another standing rear naked choke and was forced to submit, giving Alessio the hard-fought victory.

Couture, making her professional debut as a mixed martial artist, received a rude awakening, as her opponent battered her from bell to bell and handed her the first loss of her career. Couture's opponent, Kim Rose, was also making her professional debut, and rose to 1-0 with the victory.

Rose drilled Couture with a huge right hand just seconds into the fight, nearly finishing Couture off. To her credit, Couture managed to hold on, then endured a vicious beating for three full rounds. In the end, Couture walked away from the fight with a broken jaw, broken nose and an appointment with a specialist for the morning.

Not the debut that Couture was hoping for.

In other bouts earlier in the evening, Dave Jansen and Kui Gonsalves-Kanoho both scored Unanimous Decision victories, while Brice Ritani-Coe picked up a TKO win at 4:33 of round one.
