Starnes Gone From UFC

by Robert Sargent

Following his atrocious performance against Nate "Rock" Quarry at UFC 83, where he became the first UFC fighter to lose 30-24 on one judge's scorecard, Kalib Starnes has been relieved of his UFC contract and will not be back.

It was originally reported that UFC President Dana White fired Starnes from his contract, but Starnes insists that he asked to be removed from his deal.

Regardless, few promotions will likely want anything to do with Starnes after his embarrassing performance on the main card of the UFC 83 pay-per-view in Montreal.

"[Starnes] just doesn't belong in the UFC and, after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work," White said.

Starnes compiled a 2-3 record in the UFC, following his tenure on The Ultimate Fighter 3 where he suffered a severe rib injury. His overall record stands at 8-3-1, with notable wins over Chris Leben and Jason MacDonald. However, he will now be most remembered for the disastrous display put on this past Saturday.

Starnes has denied that he appeared on a Montreal radio show after the fight, wherein he supposedly claimed to have thrown the fight in protest of the UFC's poor financial compensation of its athletes, especially when injured.

Whether he had a reason for throwing the fight or not, Starnes likely won't ever compete in the UFC again.
