My name is Tyler "Taz" Weathers, I am a full-time college student as well as a full-time mixed martial artist, have been involved in the sport for about 3 years now and am currently 19 years old (wrestling since I was 10).
I live at a house in Fullerton, California with 7 other guys. I train 5 times a week and twice a day on Tuesdays and Thursdays with my fighting academy: Joker Wild Fighting Academy, as well as the occasional sparring sessions with people from surrounding gyms (No Limits and Sub Fighter).
I stopped wrestling in college because I wanted to go professional in MMA before I have to have corrective back surgery in my mid 20's which will prevent me from doing MMA post-op, and competing at that level has always appealed to me. As soon as you have a professional bout, you can't wrestle collegiately in college anymore, so I made that decision.
My fighting style is striking. I use my wrestling to try to keep it on the feet (we have great standup trainers) because I like to try to put on a good show for the people that come and watch me fight, as well as for the promoters inviting me to fight for them.
My amateur record was 5-1 with 4 (T)KO's and 1 Sub, the loss came due to a guillotine choke in my first fight. I was 17 going against a guy 34 years old (not like that's a big deal now, the nerves really got to me).
I now fight professionally. Let's just say I learned a lot in a short period. I lost my pro debut to a guillotine choke after dominating the guy for 2 rounds, then my second and most recent fight I was thinking about striking too much and got lay and prayed. I was too content with going for submissions instead of bringing it back to the feet. One judge gave me a 10-8 round for the 3rd round, but it wasn't enough and I lost my second pro fight by Majority Decision.
Since then, I've been training my ass off every week. My trainers are really happy with the way my training is going lately and I have my next fight scheduled for October.
