Syuri Kondo Set To Face Kanna Asakura At Pancrase 277Krush women’s kickboxing champion Syuri Kondo is set to make her mixed martial arts debut on April 24th at Pancrase 277 in Tokyo, Japan. The popular striker and pro wrestler squares off against unbeaten teen prospect Kanna Asakura in a featured strawweight matchup on the main card.

Pancrase officials announced the bout this past week. Kondo, who is one of Japan’s most successful female kickboxers, has set her sights on one day becoming a Pancrase champion. Asakura cracked the atomweight top ten with a win over ex-Valkyrie champ Yasuko “Ikuko” Tamada in September.

Kondo (13-1-0 KB; 0-0-0 MMA) debuted for the Hustle pro wrestling promotion in 2008 and she has gone on to capture numerous titles as one of Japan’s most well-known female wrestlers. Her combat sports career began in late 2009 when Kondo scored victories in a pair of shoot boxing matches. Under kickboxing rules, Kondo racked up ten straight wins including a Krush Women’s Championship victory over Miku Hayashi in a March 2014 rematch. Her lone loss came this past year when she was edged out by China’s E Meidie, but she retained her Krush title by defeating Tomoko SP in September.

Asakura (3-0-0) made her pro MMA debut eight days prior to her 16th birthday in October 2014 and earned a Unanimous Decision victory over Naomi “Nachi” Okaki at Vale Tudo Japan 6th. She returned to action in June and submitted Miyuki Furusawa with a first-round rear-naked choke, then scored her biggest win to date by upsetting Tamada at Vale Tudo Japan 7th. Her most recent bout took place under amateur Shooto rules in November when Asakura, now 18, submitted Mikiko Hiyama. She looks to spoil Kondo’s MMA debut next month and establish herself as one of Pancrase’s top female talents.

Pancrase 277 takes place on April 24th at Differ Ariake in Tokyo, Japan. The bout between Kondo and Asakura will be contested over three 3:00 rounds.
