Miesha Tate vs Liz Carmouche Announced For UFC On FOX 8A second women’s bout has been added to the upcoming UFC on FOX 8 event on July 27th in Seattle, Washington. Former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha “Cupcake” Tate will make her return to action to face recent UFC title challenger Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche.

UFC officials announced the main card matchup this evening. Both fighters are coming off of defeats in their UFC debuts. Tate was stopped by “Alpha” Cat Zingano at the TUF 17 Finale earlier this month, while Carmouche was submitted by “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey in February’s UFC 157 main event.

Tate (13-4-0) rose to the top of the 135-pound women’s division in July 2011 when she became the first woman to ever submit Marloes “Rumina” Coenen in MMA competition. The victory earned Tate the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Championship, but she dropped the belt to Rousey in her first title defence the following March. In August, Tate rallied back from early adversity to submit veteran Julie “Fireball” Kedzie, and she got off to an excellent start against Zingano 11 days ago before ultimately succumbing to a barrage of knees and a vicious elbow in the third round.

Carmouche (8-3-0) stepped in on short notice for an injured Tate to challenge Coenen for the Strikeforce title in March 2011. She dominated the champion for three rounds before falling victim to a triangle choke in the early stages of round four. After dropping a decision to former Strikeforce titleholder Sarah Kaufman, Carmouche made two appearances for Invicta FC and earned stoppage wins over Ashleigh Curry and Kaitlin Young. In the first female fight in UFC history, Carmouche engaged in an action-packed war with Rousey at UFC 157, but tapped out to an armbar late in the opening round.

The winner of the bout between Tate and Carmouche will get right back into contention for Rousey’s UFC title, which will be on the line later this year when she makes her second championship defence against the undefeated Zingano.

UFC on FOX 8 takes place on July 27th at KeyArena in Seattle, Washington. The event also features a second female fight between Julie Kedzie and Germaine de Randamie.
