Frank Mir Injured, Out Of Strikeforce Main Event In NovemberFormer UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir has suffered an undisclosed injury and has been forced to withdraw from his Strikeforce main event bout with Daniel Cormier on November 3rd in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sports Rage was first to report on Mir’s injury on Tuesday evening.

Cormier may remain on the November card against a new opponent, but an official announcement has not yet been made. He remains unbeaten as a mixed martial artist and most recently won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix by defeating Josh “The Warmaster” Barnett on May 19th.

Mir (16-6-0) had been scheduled to make his Strikeforce debut in the bout with Cormier (10-0-0), but he will now be forced to the sidelines for an undetermined amount of time. The nature of Mir’s injury was not revealed, though it is believed that he may have injured his knee during training. The veteran jiu-jitsu practitioner has won three of his past four fights and had been looking to rebound from a loss to current UFC titleholder Junior “Cigano” dos Santos.

Cormier is one of the most talented wrestlers in MMA today and has shown marked improvement in his MMA game with each passing fight. Originally an alternate in the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament, Cormier punched his ticket to the finals with a crushing knockout of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva one year ago and dominated Barnett across five rounds to capture the grand prix title. Seven of Cormier’s ten wins have come inside the distance and he is one of the heavyweight division’s fastest rising stars.

The November 3rd Strikeforce event is set to take place at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and features a women’s bantamweight bout between Sara McMann and Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche.
